Earthmovers in action: The first production D7E diesel-electric dozer to be seen working in Europe and the first built for landfill duties. On this site over 3 days, this not-yet-run-in dozer averaged 27 litres of diesel an hour.

Le Tornneau did diesel electric dozers in 1960s. This is awesome idea. No transmission torque converters oil seals had lines clutch packs etc etc. Just final drive on electric motors. Awesome.

A diesel-electric drive, yes, but if that's a "hybrid" it sure has a mighty small battery as it appeared to me that the load on the engine exactly mirrored the load on the machine, as in not a hybrid at all. Still, pretty cool.
@tjfecteau80013 жыл бұрын
I think the only hybrid part was when it was in reverse. Otherwise you're right, full steam ahead!
@juniorcarney162 жыл бұрын
Im not sure,but i'd reckon it is the same as a hydrostat,only with a generator supplying current to two electric motors,so it shouldnt need a battery. Not sure just guessing

They need to run everything in the landfill through a grinder before spreading and let it dry and then generate electricity and only bury the ash or use it for fertilizer ,problem solved .
@tjfecteau80013 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would be as profitable than making trillion dollar landfills.

Really excellent footage of a landfill operation at work. I have to wonder where this site actually is; the main reason being is that I have seen (briefly) Cat 826G's in the past and the 836's are quite a bit beefier. I wasn't aware that the UK would have sites which would require such a beast? Love the CAT stretched ADT though, very innovative. If only I could access sites like these with my camera as machinery is where its at for me!

That's a compactor. It flattens out all of the rubbish in the landfill to maximise available space. The spikes on the wheels also serve to slit into any bin bags to allow the rubbish inside to biodegrade after burial.

@petercdowney5 жыл бұрын
Although the Danish tend to incinerate what can't be recycled, to generate electricity and heat their houses. That's another reason why.

I think its a bit overkill in a way, waste of a good machine on a tip, how long will it take to cean out all that crap from the tracks? If i bought one I would never use it for landfill applications, there is a dedicated machine for that kind of job and I believe using a dozer for this is a waste of a good machine like this. I i won the lottery Ide be buying one along with a chunk of land to practice on and pass the skills on to others.

And it doesn't really sound any different than a hydraulic drive machine with electrical controls. Looks like the 'green hybrid drive' thing was added to try and keep some people happy. It's all a trade-off anyway. You have to deal with the same problems with any power source. If it isn't electricity it's liquid. And since when this the balance make much difference. It's who sits in the seat.
@travisricks34366 жыл бұрын
I like the dozer but going electric adds to more problems and downtime. And at the landfill I work at we ABSOLUTELY CAN’T AFFORD ANYMORE DOWNTIME!!!
@driverjeff14982 жыл бұрын
Idiots hear this and think it's electric, it is butt not like they think. Basicly a generator on tracks turning 2 giant electric motor final drives and pump for the blade. It is cool and probably a hell of alot more efficient. Alot less steel moving alot less repair and down time . Not any better for the environment though. On the production end you have traded one material,steel for a dozen different materials cooper,cobalt,nickel etc. that requires strip mining all over the world where they burn enormous amounts of diesel fuel for production. A solar plant in California was built. It took 2 years at 10k gallons of diesel per week. Math came out as 45 years for the clean energy to cancel initial carbon release, panels have a life expectancy of 20. I love it and wish it were so and it will be one day. Butt as my friends from out of town say,"Your just not ready yet."

wow what a way to run a landfill running the cats that deep into the pile they are dragging trash on to the pad the packer should be doin all the spreading n the cats should be feeding the pile but now they have twice the mess and twice the cover spread not to mention all the blow away from the pad so they are losing money all over the place not to mention mucking up the hood with nasty tissues from blow away bummer

Why does a wonderful video about a hybrid dozer get juvinile comments about killing birds bumped as the top comments? Anyone who thinks killing birds for fun is an acceptable past-time is so immature that it is just very sad. We've all been there, but that was when we were teenagers. Are there that many teens watching this video and bumping up the "fun" of going on a killing spree?
