I’m saw most of those other farmers using tractor 🚜 for plowing their farm land I’m thinking this farming guy is super smart because bull dozers is way stronger than a regular tractor. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely video to all of us 👍.

Folks commenting should take into consideration what power it takes to pull a disk with the large blades and spacing between blades it has. It's a plow disk more than anything. Kind of like the old one-way disks they made for farms 40 years back or so. Big blades, big spacing between disks, and they took a lot of power to pull. Looks like the D-8 was a good choice, as the JD four wheel drive in your other video ran out of traction trying to pull this. Good video.

If it were a tracked tractor, it would have pulled it fine

That’s the biggest set of Giant Discs I’ve ever seen. The ones used here in New Zealand are usually only 3 or 4 discs a side and only singles, not tandems. They are usually used here in heavy trash to cut and incorporate scrub.

Would a Cat Challenger be any good at this kind of work? A 95E would have enough power, but would the rubber tracks work on that black soil?

Really nice film. I know of only one place in the UK that still relies on 1970's vintage D6's &7's for doing their main tillage work. Its a game of pro's and cons - This is light work for the D8 so not that much wear on undercarriage and I reckon it's prob more fuel efficient than a big tractor due to less slippage. Less soil compaction too, and that D8 doesn't look like its even breaking in to a sweat. I take it this is in the US..I wonder which part/state? Nice work nice film.

Yuxin Wang Hi. I haven't been able to spend much time on KZbin the past few months and am trying to get caught up. Yes, this is in the US; we are in the southwest area of the state of Iowa.. We did use a tractor (I now see your comment on that video) and it pulled it down. The D8 worked great with this disk and for what little time is put on the dozer, it didn't wear on it, and it pulled it well. The people that say differently don't know what they are talking about as my husband thourougly researched it and can tell you specs and details of every piece of heavy equipment out there...he is like an encyclopedia when it comes to heavy equipment and farm equipment and just loves it. We ran this over a customers field, in which we took out 9 acres of trees, including old established large trees, and it grinds up the leftover tree roots that don't come out with the root ball, and loosens the soil which helps out with planting - a regular farm disc that the farmer had, wouldn't be able to do it. Thanks for the comment! Heather

BLACK EARTH EXCAVATION & TRENCHING, LLC hello, I’m commenting on something that is 2 years old but I’ll give it a shot 😁 I have to tackle the same undertaking with virgin soil, etc. I was thinking of the D8 with a root rake and /or root knife on the back. I don’t have to take any trees just native grama grasses, tall fescue, and a bunch of pesky creosote bushes. Could I get your opinion please? Thanks much.

Can you explain what the rows of mounded dirt or Berms is for? Is it for erosion and water run off? Im a Tennessee construction and farm boy and was curious.Here at home most of our fields are flat,gently rolling or straight up where a goat cant climb..lol....I love your awesome vids and great looking equipment.I love watching good operators.But just curious about the mounds of dirt and the whole process...thanks
@Blackearthexcavationandtiling

They are narrow base terraces. Without them our fields erode away, most of land is 5 to 12 % slope and highly erodible. In this particular video we cleared the draws (timber in the low spots) and installed terraces to control the water run off. If the land had been cleared and not terraced, with the big rains we've gotten over the past year there would of been 3 ft deep ditches down the hills.. I appreciate the comment, thank you, Jan

I think the land clearing and tiling are going to be slow this fall, the last couple of years have good for ag work, a lot of the farmers never even got the crops in around here, and if they did they said it might be lucky to grit 100 bushels to the acre on the corn
@AdamPetroffVideos
@AdamPetroffVideos 10 жыл бұрын
Can I ask why??
@Blackearthexcavationandtiling
@Blackearthexcavationandtiling 10 жыл бұрын
Adam Petroff Because, depending on your location, the crops may not have been very good (poor weather, late planting due to weather, early frosts) and even if they where good, the commodity prices have crashed. $3 corn means there is no profit in the crops you planted and some have even lost money around us. And if the farmer rented the land they plant, then they pay a fixed fee (based on agreements before when corn was $7), then there are the fixed costs for planting (seed, fertilizer, pesticides, fuel, etc) and in the end, the amount of bushels per acre leaves you with a total dollar loss, or breaking even, or minimal profits just to pay for the equipment and living....so no expendable income to re-invest in land improvements. Heather

BLACK EARTH EXCAVATION I was more aiming towards the question of; Why use a D8T to pull a disk in circles?? Was it the only tractor there or did someone just say "hey lets see if the dozer can pull it" I wouldn't want my 8T to wear its undercarriage out doing this. Don't get me wrong I like the video but it just seems uneconomic way of doing a simple task.

BLACK EARTH EXCAVATION Does the John Deere 9560 struggle with this disc? Or are you referring to a different tractor. I ran a 9520 John Deere pulling a 24 yard scraper and I figured it would handle this disc without a problem.
@Blackearthexcavationandtiling
@Blackearthexcavationandtiling 10 жыл бұрын
pinsog The 9560R handles the disk for most applications although in tough clay conditions it struggles .. mainly it runs out of traction, tractive effort with the D8T is far superior to ag tractor
@pinsog
@pinsog 10 жыл бұрын
BLACK EARTH EXCAVATION Agreed on tractive effort in favor of D8T with double the weight and 10 or so feet of steel track on the ground per side. The more I look at that disc your pulling, the bigger it looks. That thing is huge. I have never pulled a disc(I don't count a 6 footer) I have only pulled a 24 yard scraper and a 14 ft box blade (land level, what ever) and the 9520 handled both of those VERY well. Would a D6C pull that disc? I know it would be slow if it did, but would it even handle it?
