I live in western Kentucky near where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers meet. I farmed for a good part of my life. First on our own farm, and then for a few other farmers. I’ve never seen equipment this big working the fields. The man that rents our farm has big equipment, but not this big. I’d love to work the fields with equipment like this! I always enjoyed field work. Farm machinery has come a long way since I farmed. Love your videos, keep up the good work!

Grew up on a farm in the 50s and 60s. Still live on one but rent the ground out. I have watched these big pieces of equipment and been inside them. I might get one started but with all the flat screens, auto throttles, GPS,, and so on, I dont think I could get it moving. LOL. I watched our farmer running what I thought was a little box drill behind his truck one day. I stopped him to see what he was doing and come to find out it wasnt a drill but a machine that would electronically do soil samples and mark on his computer the GPS location of what fertilizer was need for all the different parts of the field. It took him about 4 hrs to do a 100 acre field but in the end he had it all mapped out and on a flash drive ready to put in either the spreader or the planter. Just proves its alot more than Bloombergs, poke a hole, drop a seed and cover it up, no brain farming.

I would imagine these guy must travel from way down south and work their way north as the season progresses.I put my semi on hauling watermelons from the fields to market. We started in Bel Glade Fl and worked our way up to Indiana for the season. For those interested, the best tasting melons came from the brown dirt in Indiana although Georgia melons from red clay were right there at the top. Worst was Florida. Just saying.

It's the truck driver that makes everything work. And no one business keeps the entire Trucking Industry working more than Proctor and Gamble. This Year 2020 looks set to break a lot of records as far as acres planted, yields, etc. *Just in time for people to be not too hungry much* ironically enough. No such thing as done too early and too right as the time needed to get all that hardware ready for the next pass always seems like the next day. Anyhow great way to bankrupt a perfectly good oil Company!

I am impressed. When I worked on my Dad’s farm more 65 years ago, it took several passes and several days to prepare the seed bed. It was never planted on the same day. As an aside, a lot of our corn was “checked” so that it could be cultivated longwise or crosswise. That is probably not necessary with all of today’s chemicals.
@EinachserLS
@EinachserLS 4 жыл бұрын
I never knew that. Today there are also cultivators available that can work in between the plants as you go along the rows, using cameras and actuators.
@drbrickner
@drbrickner 4 жыл бұрын
EinachserLS the checking was done by stretching a wire from end to end over length of the field. Stakes held each end in place. Knots in their were evenly placed and tripped a dog on the planter as the planter went past. Each trip dropped seeds at that point. It was a bit of work because the stake had to be carefully moved at the end of the field. As you can imagine the cross row cultivating was a rough ride and also slow going as the spacing was not always precise. Typically, we would cultivate with the rows 3 or 4 times but only 2 times crosswise. Needless to say, no cameras involved but lots of work. During wwII we were still using a two row planter that was converted from horse drawn. After the war, dad bought a new JD 4-row.

@@drbrickner I read a little bit about it just now. Even found a clip of a check row corn planter working on this very channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4iofHmOntGqjrM Fascinating stuff. I´m sure it was labour intensive but that someone figured out how to do this, least of all 150 years ago amazes me.

Absolutely awesome vid👍having MT800 makes reversing much easier then articulated tractors, seen how this farm operate with “window of opportunity” this our sowing season just started with canola here in Australia n it been wet. I haven’t seen this much rain since 93 n back then we pull MF or Sunshine 500 which is similar to International 511 24 row, 7 inch spacing seeder, pull by CAT D4, poor wheels on seeder wouldn’t turn it was mess. Having big equipment we might avoid wet sowing season 🤞we don’t have Quadtrac/tracks tractor unfortunately if things get to wet.

It’s an odd thing. KZbin posts it as 20 min 20 seconds on the time stamp. In order to make the time stamp read that video has to be 20 min 19 seconds when it loads. If I loaded a 20 min 20 second video it would be time stamped on KZbin as 20 min 21 seconds. I have no idea why it does that.

The big machines are not limited to the USA. In Australia where the farms are bigger, you can sometimes see 5 and 6 machines working one paddock to get it planted. We dont have as much corn of course, we rely more on wheat and oats. Some paddocks of 2-3000 acres and that is where the big line up of machines to get it done in one day. Here in Western Australia we have more area under crop than the entire area of Texas....oh yes, big stuff in Australia. (Just to show off a little bit, the total area of Western Australia alone is 4.6 times the total area of Texas)

So what am I missing here? Did they stir the inoculate into the rest of the seed in each hopper? Otherwise not all the seed get inoculated. Next question, The liquid fertilizer tanks on the front have no sprayer boom to cover the width of the planted rows so is the liquid fertilizer pumped back to each row planter? I think yes so the fertilizer goes directly in the row versus wasteful broadcasting.

That is not Inoculant. The powder is graphite to help the seed flow from the box to the tube. It only takes a little graphite to do the job. The Chem Farm tanks feed 24 tubes that place the start fertilizer next to the seed. It is not broadcast on.
