That was an EXCELLENT demonstration of how they work and why its a wear item.... It would be cool if there was a way to just squirt a little dry graphite into the face's gap to lubricate the metal faces from time to time.... Thanks for recording and showing this (and explaining) 👍 🍻

I am by no means an expert on Duo cone seals, but the Caterpillar ones I have done expressly state they must be dry. The only allowable lubricant to assist with installation is isopropyl alcohol, because it will evaporate and leave a perfectly dry surface with no residual contamination. The only place oil is required is on the metal faces of the sealing surface and they are very certain to point out not to get oil on any other surface while putting it on the faces. I have to imagine other manufacturers of equipment would be the same. I can’t see how a duo cone could work properly if its slippery. They rely on the tork from the oring rolling up the ramp. 🤷🏽

You just can pull it out with your hands there are 2 of them in there the end cap holds them on.
