It's more so the sounds over anything else. Just play a video of kittens crying for their mother and see how your cat tries to pick up your phone to carry it away to safety.

They did do a really good job with the body language, but tbh my cat tries to fight anything on my monitor, including my cursor. I agree with Grim, the sounds are a big reason why the majority of cats are interested. You'd be surprised, there's a sub-genre of videos on KZbin called "Cat TV" which is a mixture of kittens crying, and close-ups of birds being fed. I put on the bird one, just to entertain my cat when I can't take her outside. She usually sits on the couch, chirps, and falls asleep to it, and she'll also paw the tv and meow when she wants me to put the birds on for her.

Fun Fact: You might assume motion capture was used to help model the cat, but it's actually entirely hand animated! The developers didn't want to make a cat actor (a cactor, if you will) recreate any of the more dangerous motions the cat in the game performs, and they wanted to make sure they intimately understand the motions of a cat by creating them from scratch. A truly amazing amount of effort and love went into this game, and it definitely shows :)

While I was playing this game I found myself relating to my cat in ways I never did in the past for example being in the cats perspective it made me want to get up into high places so that I could see what was happening to scout out where I wanted to go in to see if there’s any danger and I caught myself and realized oh my god that is why he does that that is why my cat climbs up in the high spaces and looks around there’s something really really unique I think every cat owner should play this game and just for a little while to understand the perspective of the cat playing from that point of view and understanding the world from their perspective a little bit

But it was Windows 10 - so I felt left out Until I found a pirate copy designed to work on Windows 7 - another customer lost , I would have definitely paid for this if they were honest enough to say it would work on Windows 7 with minimal tweaking It's a great game - and "Stray II" must surely be on the horizon This indie game has rightly taken the world by storm [PISS OFF EA PISS OFF BLIZZARD PISS OFF ACTIVISION PISS OFF UBISOFT PISS OF ROCKSTAR SELLOUTS] Unfortunately, a great success like this won't go unnoticed - and Stray II will be infested with a "catnip" microtransaction currency, "cat-treat pouches" (aka loot boxes) - and, eventually, weapons - like a machine gun on your cat's back that can mow down your opponent's kittens in multiplayer - and the ability to drive souped-up cars. Basically GTAV online done with cats I so hope I'm wrong - but the evidence shows I won't be.

Jackson is experiencing something my husband likes to call "the language of the game." It's when you figure out what the developers wanted or intended for you to do, like jumping on the barrels when there's no flooring, or realizing the cans can do more than be a silly can being knocked over. It's more than button mashing, you're solving a puzzle. Most games do this, and it's always fun trying to figure out a new world.

The initial fall cutscene still makes me cry when I watch it, even though I've seen it several times already lol Also in another video of a girl who is kind of a cat behaviorist (unsure of her actual credentials) she was surprised that after the first chase scene they added the little ear scratch, because while most people would think, "Oh he got a little itch." She said it's actually a form of destressing for the cat to put them in a calmer mindset and I found that absolutely fascinating.

My Haley did that also with the harness, an "escape proof" harness. Her brother, Oreo, pulled a Houdini in just 4 attempts and did not break the harness(escape proof?). He ran and hooked his leash under the truck's tire. First three attempts he yo-yo'ed right back but on the fourth he was a free running cat. His sister never had that desire, She figured out if she plops down looking helpless someone will just carry her instead. I think this game would be so awesome but I wonder if the dog my cats raised would enjoy such a game???

I don’t know much about programming or video games for that matter, but I did read (as I was looking for ways for my brother to play this on a Mac) that because the code is so eloquent, if one wants to play this via streaming software that converts from PC to Mac, it’s not going to be glitchy or lossy. It’s really superb in its programming. My husband is a front-end programmer, so I have some basic, rudimentary idea what all this means on a macro level, but I really don’t know the nitty-gritty of how all of it works (have I said I don’t know my ass from my elbow as far as coding enough yet?). I just know many have said it’s really well done.

Bluetwelve actually modeled the stray cat after THREE different cats, that they own. First one is of course Murtaugh, the model for our cat's physical appearance. Next is (I think) a black Sphynx cat (don't remember the name), that they used for the protagonist's movements and the last one ... actually no idea, I've forgot what was that cat used for (sound? probably), but I know, there's three cats, that our stray is based on. People talk only about Murtaugh, but the stray cat's only based on his appearance, nothing else. The other two cats from B12's office contributed as much, without them, the stray would be a completely different cat. Different movements, different sound, different behavior ... Those cats don't get enough love from people around the globe.

I love the immediate transition from "Wow! They put a cat in a video game!" To "Oh no! You can die in video games. This cat can die!" Also, that was the most cinematic jump into the window at the end of that chase. Most people know the controls well enough to leave the bugs in the dust, so you never see them in the shot.

Stray is a great game, and I'm glad it's blowing up so much. My partner and I collectively flew through it in about two days. Our cats were also pretty entertained. They were curious about the dedicated meow button, and enjoyed watching the boi on screen. The _Back to the Future_ gag was pretty funny, but I can't STAND the enemies. They're so gross, they look like giant ticks! NASTY!! Anyway, I'm from Nebraska and got my girl from the humane society, so I'm so happy to have supported AnnaPurna's charity!😸

Jackson, have you tried playing the first part around your cats to see how they react? I have a couple of friends who don't know each other but they both have cats and both started playing Stray. Just like a ton of other people, their cats reacted to the first part of the game where all the cats are traveling together. My friend's female cat watched him play and started to mew quietly every time he made the cat meow in game.

The ambiance, the movement, the design, and of course the cat, is done in such great detail and care that you KNOW it was a passion project first and foremost. I NEVER buy new games when they first come out, but I jumped the hell on this game and played it for like an hour last night (that's a lot for me, i'm too busy for games). It is ADORABLE and the environment is beautiful. The cats interact and you can spam that meow button for happy little cat trills. The only thing I'm not loving (after an hour of play) is that there doesn't seem to be much to do other than platform. I haven't killed anything, found any pickups, made any cat alliances, interacted with any teammates or enemies .... just platformed through the environment.

The NPCs are really lovely and reactive to the cat, but you have to play a little further to get inside the town. There are a fair number of folks to talk with, side quests, collectibles, etc... despite the short length of the game (8 hrs).
