It’s a fine line when doing rescue, you want the pet to find a good home but you also don’t want them to be put back in the system. I was going to adopt a cat from a rescue once and they required the cat to be declawed. Which to me is inhumane. I went to my local shelter and got a kitten instead and he’s the best cat I’ve ever had. Looking forward to seeing the little guy!

declawed 😨 are they crazy, is that even legal?
@Sarahew85

@ I know, it should be illegal but it isn’t. I guess the rescue’s thought was that’s a big reason why someone would want to rehome a cat, but that also turns a lot of people away from adopting from them 🤷‍♀️ it didn’t make any sense to me

If you declaw a cat he cant defend himself at all. I would never.

I too have cats , I have 3 former feral cats that have taken up residence in my house , they just turned up for dinner and took over the couch and have settled in.

A friend chicken-wired a small porch, with a pet door for their cat, she loved it out there! We have birds, squirrels, and other such suburb wildlife, as well as the occasionally neighborhood dog or cat in the yard. We never like the idea of keeping the cats inside all the time so we let them out on an old dog Tie Out that ran most the length of the back yard, or out on Leads, putting the cats in body harnesses. Ours didn't mind them, they liked going outside, and with a bell on the line it stopped them from catching any wildlife.

A cat-io is a cool thing. It’s a caged area resembling a chicken coop that allows a cat the go in and out the house through a window yet stay contained.

The inside/outside run is the best idea. The idea is that you have a caged run that the cat can move around in, go up, go down etc. Gives the cat some outside experiance while being contained. I agree, don't tell them what you plan to do and just do it after they leave.

I was going to make a few of those tables. Had the idea a couple of years ago when I got back from Japan. Got some leftover teak a few years ago, so I'm getting closer to making at least one, lol! Yes, I have cats, 3 at home and one at work.

It sounds like Australia is like rural USA in regards to strays. My dad still has a bunch of extra outdoor cats (my mother has a limit of 4 indoor cats). Ive heard of some cat refuges in the cities can be controlling and invasive too, but not on the Japanese level. Thanks for the video! I hope to see a cat video soon. ^___^

I guess I would had to go to the pet store as I couldn't put up with the much intrusiveness. I go to great length to keep people out of my house. It's paid off: No home invasion/robberies.

Maybe you should've kept the snake collecting cat at home? This all reminds me of a manager I had who wanted there to be a procedure for everything. Ah, good times.

Catios are awesome for the kitties! Surprised you just didn't use the cat distribution network to get a free one that already lives in your neighborhood...

I have a coworker like that. If you do anything different than how he has done it for 8 years he loses his mind. He cant understand there might be a better way. I do it anyway and he eventually does too.

What happens if the whole family has to go away ? Do you have someone to care for the cat ? Do they have catteries where you are because in Australia they will ask for proof of vaccination, worming & fleaing before accepting your cat.

Sometimes it is harder than others... it depends on what we can tolerate and what we cant, and how much we value the good stuff.

If you don't get your cat - I can imagine the refund for the 20,000 yen will require a form and they will deposit it into your bank account at the end of next month.

This video reminds me to wonder WHY you still choose to live over there. I reckon I'd be driven mad in fairly short order.

We have the same problem in UK. Don and I were going to adopt another cat and they wanted photos of the inside of the house. To me this was an invasion of privacy. so we gave up and bought a pet shop rabbit. Saddly it died and we've decide after out current cats die we are never bothering with pets again even though we love them.

Inspecting the house is honestly a good idea, to make sure the house isn’t disgusting or they’re hoarding cats or other bad situations. The adoption people don’t know what the home life is like. The cage thing is weird though, and I can’t abide people who make their pets live in cages all day. Either figure out a better situation or don’t get pets you don’t have the time to care for
