Thank you for sharing Mr. Very good trip down memory lane staying in the woodland hotel in forks for those that don't know it was a bunk house for loggers.

My dog Loki found an old Steam Engine Donkey Sled out by Summit, Oregon. I was Cruising some timber stands & he started digging at some moss and stepping back I could see the deck, the skid logs & the bolts that lashed it all together.

Agreed! good choices set to great images. High Lead Logging is extremely Archaic and my favorite to engineer. Figuring out deflection for massive distances & depths, ensuring the crews safety while putting together all the needed components for a highly efficient team operation. Rigging thoughts all say long. What amazes me is how we still use the same mathematical equations & principles for timber harvests. Yup Trees back then were enormous compared to these industrial tree farm harvests of today. Still, there’s plenty of cable logging that hasn’t changed much. You don’t see those 125’ Telescoping Skagit Towers out on the hill anymore, just in old photos.

In 1964 and 65 we were using an AC HD-16 with an Esco fairlead and could run circles around any old Cat with an arch. We also had a Carcowinch which was twice as fast as those old Hysters. In 1966 we got a new HD-15 with power shift and same fairlead and it was faster yet. That Carco could pull hard. It broke a 1 1/4 in bull line pulling a 7 ft. hemlolck out of Finn creek.

That is awesome, I wish my Logging career would have started back in those days using those now older pieces of equipment. Thank you so much for sharing that story for myself and others to read in the comments. Can you email me some time I would like to talk to you more about your career, it is Danielmboone@gmail.com.

That old shovel had some ass in it to handle those big logs like that. Nice timber they were in.

There is nothing like old iron. Simple to run and maintain. I could find one of these relics in a bone yard add fuel, oil and a battery and go to work haha
That's a load there the one towards the end. Geeze then truck it into town with leaky water breaks. Hard working humans back then

Did you get the Cat logging film from the Felt family? Some of the footage looks to be Sonny Felt's operation out of Mineral.

If only people today were able to do what our forefathers did! No cell phones, no iPads, laptops, before Weyerhaeuser and it’s corruption, and before engineers designed it to fail!,
