Rick Wakeman (from Yes) played the piano on this song. And on lots of other great songs from the 70s, like Bowie's Life On Mars or Get It On (Bang a Gong) from T-Rex.

This is actually a very old hymn. Beautiful

I found it in an old 1900 hymnal.

Rick Wakeman, who played the piano, tells a great story about how this song came together, it's hilarious

Right. "Tickling the keys" really worked in this song.

My father used to play Cat Stevens albums on Saturday mornings while making us kids eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Good memories!!!

It's hard to believe how big this guy was in the 70's. It's so funny, my brother wanted this to be played at his wedding, but of course the good old Catholic church refused to do so. However ,i think they got to have it played on the church organ !..............oh the 70's...oh the RC church ! :)

Since 1977. Still, this song is a Christian hymn published in 1931. Though it has been added to in this version.... and any faith can interpret it or one of no faith.

Cat Stevens has many songs that weren't big hits but try Sitting, Sun/C79 and The Hurt.

Sun/C79 is an amazing song.

Cat Stevens "Moonshadow" definitely. "Wild World", "Peace Train", "If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out" -- Soft is fair. Soft rock, easy listening. We sang this song in church a few times when I was a kid. The song began in the 1930's as a hymn with only three short verses. Cat Stevens arrangement stretches them out by changing key four times and otherwise letting Rick Wakeman do his thing.

Try listening to the theme to the movie Love Story by Andy Williams it is quite beautiful.

Not into the religious aspect, it’s just a beautiful melody sung with a beautiful voice.

I didn't know his music that much. If there was a prime (single) album of his best music, I'd take the time to listen. I still think my favorite single was Moonshadow. Catchy tune.

"Tea for The Tillerman" however every album is good. Every song on every album is really good, he was a great writer. He covered a few songs too really well. I don't know is there is a "best of", album.

@@jackempson3044 I had extensive album collection once and I did have hits from him. But I expect his fans favored some non hits. And probably a tune or two from Harold & Maude.
