Even to this day, Jeremy Irons' line delivery as Scar, Mufasa's screaming as he plummeted to his death, and Simba's agonized scream as he watched his father die helplessly, still give me goosebumps and chills. Such an amazing work of art. And that cat's reaction is great. The moment Mufasa died, the cat jumped off the bed and went to the screen as if it was trying to enter the world itself and comfort Simba.

When this movie came out.. it was about the time we lost our Dad. Our oldest brother rented the movie for us to watch over the weekend and so the six of us (ages ranging between 22 and 15) watched it on awe for we all appreciated Disney’s productions. When this scene appeared we all were silent and by the end of it.. there wasn’t, I tell you, wasn’t an eye not tearful. Our wound was still raw. Rest in peace, Dad. 💐

Growing up, I had a very small bedroom. So, I had a tv like RIGHT at the foot of my bed because that was the only place it fit. One of my cats loves to watch screens. She would sit at the foot of my bed with her face right up in front of that screen. The best memory I have of that was when I watched the Avengers. Usually, she'd only stick around for a little while before getting bored. But, she watched the ENTIRE movie. She sat perfectly still, watching the screen the whole time. I kept thinking that surely she was just asleep, but her head would move to follow the action, and I'd check every now and then and her eyes were open the whole time. I watched that movie another time later in my room and she came in and watched the whole thing again. She just LOVED that movie.

Cats seem to really react to great animation. My cat Zetha had a big reaction to Lion King too--watched the whole movie without moving from in front of the TV--she also loved Garfield--seemed she really liked Bill Murray's voice too. Our "moody" cat, watched a lot of Lion King too but walked out of the room when Mufasa died, like, "I don't need this!" (he's macho, but empathetic--he always follows us around if we're sick. Delilah--a very sweet cat avoids us like the plague if we're sick. They're all such different characters--can't tell me animals don't have souls. I think they're just different souls, that's all. This cat in the video is Adorable times 12!

The most heartbreaking scenes from animated films for me are Mufasa's death, the beginning of Oliver and Company, the dwarves crying around Snow White's casket and the hieroglyphics scene in Prince of Egypt where the kids are snatches from their mothers. Absolutely painful scenes to watch. This cat gets it.
