If the one choking know at all what he is doing, he won't just stand there when he starts to choke: he will pull you backwards and down to prevent any sort of counters from you. So you cannot hit the nuts, bend in any useful direction or anything.

Not just this, but genitals are harder to target then people would guess. If he is halfway decently positioned you don't have a great angle, and unless he's wearing gym shorts access is tricky. There's a good chance you just hit his thighs or pelvis rather weakly. If you get to this point, you're pretty much screwed unless you're holding a charged pistol and can think quickly.

Step your inside leg behind his outside leg, put your hand on his far side shoulder and forearm under near side leg ( behind the knee or lower hamstring ) now pull back hand on shoulder and scoop up forearm under leg and step back with far side leg, once on the ground turn body to near side control position to unlock headlock. Actually the most effective one is a throw from a rear naked choke it’s really effective especially against bigger opponents because you can easily get under there center of gravity to throw them so effective if done correctly and fast because once they sink it in and pull up it’s game over you immediately grab the arm and get your hips under there’s then throw and make sure your feet aren’t to far apart.

very nice all that he does and says in the “theory”. that key, apart from drowning you in a few seconds, and putting you to sleep, if you are pulled backwards and lifted by the neck, you easily lose your balance, that movement that you present as a “solution” or escape, is just a nice fantasy. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

BJJ has solutions for that in a life or death fight will get you killed. If he catches you by surprise and it's sunk in your kind of fucked. But you ALWAYS go for the vital points in a street fight. This won't in the UFC BECAUSE THERE'S RULES. In the street, however, your first targets are always the eyes, balls, throat, base of the brain stem, solar plexus, floating ribs, kidneys, and small joints like fingers.

There are a lot of people saying how to get out of that hold, some videos I've seen are totally ridiculous because of what they show you that ''could work'' (totally ineffective grips) *but this one looks more convincing, although there is something to add* (from my personal point of view): I don't know if this is really effective in a real situation (because in a real situation the person if he is weak, with the blow to the testicles he will loosen up, but if he is not he will stay pinned to you and will not let go, or it is also possible that this person is pulling you backwards, destabilizing your balance, also consider if this person does not place himself behind you when you try to move to the side to hit his testicles or worse still, if it is a person who knows how to execute this grip, he will grab your torso with his legs, as if it were a backpack.) it can work *but I would add to the formula that if he loosened his grip, in addition to removing his arm from above you should bring your chin together with your neck, since you must prevent the attacker's forearm from reaching your neck again, strangling you, so far I have not seen anyone recommend that and it is very important since that is the ''breaking'' or ''weakness'' point that makes us so vulnerable to this strangulation* (just like in boxing boxers are taught to cover their face with their chin). hands because the face is the "weak" point, here we also have to protect the weak point which is our neck)

The thing is in BJJ we were taught to bump out the knee and start dragging the person backwards so you can't even get your balance and get dragged with your feet kicking around. With the chin in you can dislocate their jaw with that choke. Would love to see a demo with full resistance to better understand this counter. Perhaps some padding on the groin even so you can go full out.

In the 80's I was always taught that the only counter was to prevent the hold; saw another youtube vid a few years ago that showed the step behind then elbow sweep that was effective,.....on someone who would be fearful of falling. The expert in rear-nakedness knows its true power is its brevity, locked in 4-5 seconds at most.

To be fair though, I don't think most people try to finish rear naked chokes standing up. Usually speaking, I train allowing my sparring partner to use dirty moves, so that I can watch out for those kind of things. If I can get to a "better" position, I am in a better position to do those same "dirty moves." But yes, "dirty" moves are all fair game if it's self defense. It's a tool that should be used at the right time if possible.

That only works in a demo like this when there is no real pressure. In a real situation the aggressor, with adrenaline, will not let go that elbow and will make even more pressure or bring you down

You pull down on the gap to create space for your neck to breathe. You can jump up while kicking your knees to your chest and either kick both legs to the front (taking him down with you for further moves) or you can use the space to put both of your heels into the opponents shins, thighs etc. This WILL make him have pain and lose the grip or hands. Get up, move fast, and take advantage of him from here.

That only seems to work in a demonstration. Real life, he's choking hard & most dudes can tolerate a hit to the balls, especially when adrenaline is up & the striker's force is greatly diminished & you're fading out. Timing is everything! Once he locks in, it's extremely difficult to survive .

If you hit me in the nuts, you wake up with one of you're feet on backwards....assuming I was defending myself to begin with. For the choking guy in this LARP, a blow to the nuts doesn't produce the sort of instant pain that causes that reaction, this is where all these nutshot practitioners and Hollywood girl power movies get it wrong. There is some initial pain, but the real pain is delayed a bit. To be more realistic, you need to struggle on for a bit before going a little weaker. If you want to pretend it's life and death, ignore the nut shot because that's what adrenaline will cause you to do. Personally I avoid any martial arts teacher that uses a partner that has to do some sort of acting. But that's just me.

In Brazil, this is called a Lion Killer. It's not just about choking but also about cutting blood circulation to the brain. With a strong guy like that, it is harder to escape.

personally I apply an inversed hurracarrana. It's flashy and so far it's been working just fine, as in it breaks the choke with a high success rate but you both end in the ground so it may not always lead to success overall

Guys, it is some technique that might work out. In real life situations we all know that it is t that easy. Most probably you will be choked out, but with slim chances you can get out and this is one. Do not trample this guy, he knows it is a can’t but situation. Rear neck choke hold is a bad situation to be in.

1. if he's on your chin, he's breaking your jaw. Doesn't have to be under chin. 2. if had your back and you hit me in the nuts...which in the heat of the moment is a 50/50 proposition, you're going to sleep and will be lucky if I don't add additional damage while you're napping. Watch UFC fights....guys get kicked in the nuts (cups don't help that much) and no fight has ever stopped bc of a cup check
