Couldn’t Germany have placed air in Paris?

Another great video. Early in the turn you talk about not being able to trace supply from Java to mainland usa because of japan control of hawaii. If supply is traced through bases, and up to 2 spaces per base, cant you go from the base to the west of hawaii to Appalachian Islands to mainland usa? Thx again!

I got the name wrong, just to clarify Im talking about Java > Philippines > Mariana > Wake > Midway > Aleutian > mainland USA. Sorry.

It's not traced through bases. It's traced through sea areas, but while belligerent your power must trace through sea areas which are no more than 2 areas away from a friendly port. Without Hawaii, there is no route back to the USA which can follow this rule. The only other friendly ports in the Pacific are the British and American bases far in the south (American Samoa, Rabul, Fiji, etc.). The air bases at wake/midway (to the west of Hawaii) can't be used for this trace. Only naval bases.

I realize I'm late to the party on these videos (which are great by the way - totally helped me learn how to play this game!) but one thing that I notice is that you appear to be paying multiple resources for offensives. Don't resources convert to offensives at a 1:1 ratio (per rule 4.5)?
@Bridger15

yes, offensives cost 1 resource. Did I do that often? What point are you looking at?

@@Bridger15 You know what, I think I get what you were doing! It's at about 8:24 in this video where you're buying the American offensives. You convert the resources to builds at 2:1, and then use the "build" terminology to describe the cost of the offensives...because 1 resource = 2 builds = 1 offensive. I got confused and thought you were referring to the cost of offensives in terms of resources, not builds. My bad! Thanks again for the videos. :)

ah, yes. I find it easier to keep track of everything in one "currency" in my head, so i convert everything to builds :)

Hey sorry if this was asked to you before. But as it seems you love all games strategy I was wondering how this game is compared to other grand strategy boardgames like unconditional surrender

USE is one that I own, but while I like the economic system it is not a grand strategy game by any means. It is a Grand Operational game. The decisions you are making are all lower level military movement decisions and very rarely will you be making higher level production decisions. You don't even choose reinforcements (builds). Those all come on a pre-arranged date setup by the scenario. That's not to say it's a bad game, just that it is in a different Category. To be honest, I'm not sure there is any other game that can properly be called "Grand Strategy" in the same vein as Cataclysm. Most others railroad the players into replaying the historical war at the operational level. Now that's something that a lot of people like and not a knock against those games unless you enjoy, like I do, actual strategic level gameplay.
