Cataclysm was Fun... But I am NOT Playing

I'll try out Cata to relive the nostalgia of leveling to 85 and the heroics and raid in the first phase, but don't have any plans after that with it. Are you playing on Whitemane Alliance? I have a 60 rogue and warrior there. Currently in a casual social guild and I PvP/do GDKPs on the warrior, but looking to join a laid back raiding guild soon. Paying for drops is expensive.

I recall the horror stories of the original Heroic Blackwing Descent Ony and Nef at 10 man. I'd wager like all the 10 man heroic content years prior, twas cleared by the 25 guilds going back. Looking at reforging now and a recent video by madseason, it's really the RPG stat choice system that they avoided in Wow entirely for minmaxing, though not to the your character is fkd forever kind. I didn't spend too much time with the reforging system (probably did all haste for trying to tame some stupidly overtuned hunter pet in the firelands subzone as a kid) but it got so much worse in MOP due to the reforging mount.

for melee you needed a certain amount of expertise. it would be wasted stats to have over the cap, and to be unter the cap would feel bad. thats what I recall.. been a long time! As for overtuned raids sadly it happens.. even just happened in SOD! but... I think they would release cata with properly tuned raids this time

I can't imagine how other people find fun in the old world. I sincerely tried, but that was after I tried the new world. Before the cataclysm, I see the world in gray colors and I am incredibly bored, when the raids are simple and monotonous, and my character actively uses only two buttons during the entire battle, I begin to fall asleep, in fact this is so. I like communication and the lamp group, but the game cannot be based on this alone, because I need exciting gameplay.

A lot of people say "classic" ended with WoTLK but I would argue it ends with Cata and I am pretty hyped for it.

I thought I was looking forward to Cata. But the reality is I’m tired of the endless race of progression which is followed up by patches and expansions that make all of that time spent worthless. Era can be picked up and put down as much or as little as someone like me likes, and when we come back, everything is the same, our efforts don’t become outdated and useless.

Progression grind feels bad because everything gets obsoleted, but to me junping in SW because there is nothing to do is worse. Hardcore is kinda good but falls in to a same trap progression grind does. Once you die you feel like shit.

@@19oz you have that in gw2 since the inception, nobody is playing it I played Cata on a private server recently, i was happy getting from lvl 1 to 85 doing professions and archeology grinding bis gear, but once I did all that it felt like I won. I could only raid log at that point, but that's just 4 hours of play a week. If I play only 4 hours a week I lose passion, find something else to do and stop caring about wow. If I were to play Cata I know exactly what would happen and when I would lose interest.

@@yoooyoyooo there is a difference between them not adding new content and gear and allowing you to keep having progression and making your raid gear useless on the next patch compared to basic M+ gear or in the case of wotlk to cata dung gear just being better than raid gear or elite pvp weps. they need to slow down power creep while still adding new stuff, you should feel like u can catch up and new patches help you catch up without each new content making every single piece of gear you got before invalid compared to the lower level content.

Best thing about cata was swifty series against each class. Gameplaywise vanilla is best

Cata was bad. The first tier of raids were bugged and impossible for weeks, with a brief respite with Firelands, but then went straight back to bugged/impossible with Dragon Soul raid. People also forget what an absolute nightmare the original iteration of LFR was. It had less loot, was greatly overtuned, determination wasn't added until months in. Early questing was fun especially with Vanilla zones being revamped with more streamlined questing but that's about it. Hell, even had the first legendary that only a single class could get to experience that later become vital to the entire story of the game. Didn't play a rogue during Cata? Then you have no idea who the hell Wrathion was when he showed up in MoP.

You are right but people blinded by the Cataclysm hype will give you dislikes today for speaking the truth for saying that it was a bad expansion and people shouldn't play it, and in 6 months they will agree with your comment, people are dumbo like that, I had a discussion with another person the other day, he defended Cataclysm expansion saying it was good like it was his mother, then I saw him commenting in another Cataclysm video saying he is hyped to play it (blinded by hype) 😂

No need to sugar coat the opinion to not offend the kids following the streamers blinded by the Cataclysm is good (lie) hype, all I remember from what I played Cataclysm back in the day is that the raids were awful, the dungeons were mid. The change to the talent trees and massive changes they made were dogwater. The story was garbo. The expansion overall was just bad. Which is why it takes the sh¡t cake for worst expansion. It was also the decline of having to be polite. Also, they started dumbing it down "because wahh my 5 year old plays this and it's too hard for him to understand!" (never mind that it's not meant for 5 year olds, Linda.), I also agree that if I wanted to play retail I wouldn't play Cataclysm, I would go play retail, it's much better.

I’m not sure that “dumbing it down” can be a legitimate claim when every raid and dungeon in Cata were objectively more difficult than any of the previous content at this point in time. Streamlining talents and making things baseline that were picked every time anyways seems like a positive choice to me. It was also one of the most balanced PVP eras we had. It’s hard to see why someone, like yourself, could have such a strong negative feeling towards Cata when really the only things that stick out as “bad” were an extended final tier or thinking that the story ended with wrath because of WC3.

​@@Doyoueven11 "It’s hard to see why someone, like yourself, could have such a strong negative feeling towards Cata" It's very simple, because I have to deal with liars saying Cataclysm was the greatest thing that happened in their lives and how it saved their mom from cancer, when we damn well know most people will play for a month, leave and give likes to my comments in 6 months after they go through the hype/denial phase, we don't have to wait to see anything, we already know how the expansion is, heck, I even played it on a private server with a friend, and yes the expansion also have good things, but I don't focus on those because I don't want people to get the general idea that it was a good expansion and everyone should play it, there is already too much of that garbo from streamers trying to promote it with fake hype so they get more money from gullible people and kids, they also know it's utter sh!t, some will have good memories of playing it back in the day like me, but I don't let those blind me into thinking it's the eighth wonder of the world, in this day and age I would rather play retail or stick sand in my eyes than play Cataclysm again, it's more fun anyways.
