That's a nice and pretty detailed description. I'm also not a fan of the enemies in the hub map and I think in general the hub system in Apocalypse is not as well designed as the hub in Catacomb 3-D. In Catacomb 3-D, most maps that can be accessed via the hub are optional, but reward curious players with additional hints, secrets and points. In Apocalypse, each of the maps that can be accessed via the hub is mandatory. So it still feels quite linear. It's also a bit weird that you can collect as many keys as you like by playing the same maps multiple times via the hub. To end on a positive note, the high number of projectile based enemies is one of the strong points of Apocalypse, IMO.

It also helps to get the gist of it if somebody does not feel like watching it all. The only reason I skipped the very first Catacomb 3-D is because of the last few levels I found super tedious due to the onslaught of all the demons and still more durable trolls. I can remember wrong though because it has been a while and there was no source port with a handy map and all. If you collect everything once then you end up with a spare Red Key throughout the game and in the last level you can simply skip Nemesis and immediately head for the exit since it is a red door. Funny but also dumb. I guess that is one way to solve the problem... You travel to some whatever world in the galaxy and let others deal with Nemesis, lmao. Yes but I still wish they actually attacked more and the number of Potions was significantly reduced. The devs knew the enemies were at a severe disadvantage (more so with the pain states) but they still act sluggishly.
