As soon as you went from the straight-through sound to the Formula 51, I started to hear Ron Wood’s semi-clean tone on some of those Faces and Rod Stewart recordings, which had to be a Champ.

After watching a few times, it is starting to grow on me. It is an extreme vision of what makes champs so much fun. The sag knob is a very cool feature. Almost seems like a tribute to Howard Gee who always adds a little something extra to his pedal designs.

It's kind of ironic to take a $3k guitar into a $3k amp and use a pedal to make it sound like a $100 amp.

Amp prices have way more to do with how they're built and the size of the manufacturer than what they sound like. A talented engineer can make a relatively inexpensive amp sound absolutely killer and as good as a boutique custom amp, the build quality will likely not be as good however. For guitars anything over $1,500 or so is just paying for a very specific niche item, a clone of a legendary instrument, or a customized idea, you won't be paying for a substantial increase in actual playability and quality.

It's the talent not the pedal. I've never gotten this many tones from one pedal even with a good responsive volume control in the guitar.

Have you ever played through a tweed Champ? This is a pretty close representation, although this has more bass than any Champ I’ve ever heard. Makes sense though because J is playing this through a 12 & Champs have an 8. Sounds more like a Deluxe to me, but if you don’t like this you probably wouldn’t like any early tweed.

@@donewithmodernlife I have not played through a Tweed... But I have played through pedals that supposedly approximate one. So I suppose I'm a little surprised that this pedal sounds like this. But...what do I know. I guess I wouldn't like a Tweed then.

@@mr.d.572 not just a tweed, a tweed champ specifically. Those amps sound incredibly gnarly when they’re cranked, almost to an unusable point. I’ve heard metal amps that sound less violent, harsh, and offensive than a tweed champ. In fact, this pedal doesn’t actually seem to get as wild as a real champ actually does imo, probably because the 12” speakers are taming some of the high end that those tiny little amps tend to assault you with.
