This is a fuzz version demo. If you listen to the first two CB vids, he runs it through a Hiwatt and a Fender Princeton and gets some lush, bright Pagey tones by dialing back the density and upping the diode clipping.
@Rando_Djinnsen Жыл бұрын
I have the germanium one, but -- folks everything Catalinbread says about this pedal is 100% true. Yes, it's a raging unique fuzz (my words). But if I turn the "Density" and "Diodes" knobs all the way down, I CAN PLAY JAZZ WITH IT. No compromise, sounds great w/ jazz chords (using those settings). Makes jazz solos really sweet without being at all inappropriate. And of course it does all the gainy stuff too.

Sounds amazing with that tele, as most single coils do with silicon trans. I think I'm the minority, but I prefer silicon over germanium 9 times out of 10.

It would but unfortunately Catalinbread has the shitty policy of only paying for PGS demos (and more rarely a few other big name ones such as CME and Just Nick) and not putting their pedals in the hands of other smaller demoers like most companies do, which allows us customers to get a big sample diversity and comparison possibilities. You rarely can get a real grasp on how most their stuff actually sounds apart from what Andy does do them. Either they're overconfident on their ability to sell just through PGS promotion or they have something to hide, who knows.
@patrickcarroll17548 жыл бұрын
No disrespect Desmond, but if I were a pedal company, PGS would be my first choice to showcase my product.
@bardomudo8 жыл бұрын
Patrick Carroll So would be mine but you're not getting the point... Try to make an effort and understand. Relying on a single demo to decide on a purchase is generally stupid and definitely risky. Demos are subjective. PGS is my favorite channel and Andy is my favorite player but if you, as a customer, are spending $200 without doing any further research other than a single demo, you're gambling on what you're gonna get because that's not enough to give you a full grasp on how the pedal actually sounds. Andy has a reputation of making everything sound amazing and sometimes that's not a realistic representation of the product. To truly know (or at least better understand) how the pedal sounds without testing in person, we need multiple demos made by multiple people/channels with different gear (guitar, amps, mic, interface), techniques (mic'ing, recording) and process (EQ, mixing). Most companies get that and that's why you usually see new pedal releases from other companies on multiple channels while Catalinbread refuses to do so. I'd never buy a new Catalinbread pedal without checking it out in person beforehand because I won't spend $200 based on a single subjective demo that doesn't say much. Sure, PGS demos are more than enough to sparkle my curiosity and Andy is a beast of a player but without other demos to analyze, you're in for a gamble. Catalinbread has a lot to learn from companies such as Walrus, OBNE, JHS, Chase Bliss, Strymon, TC Electronics, EHX and many, many others who make sure every new release is fully demoed by several different people/channel, including PGS.
@TheCallen678 жыл бұрын
There are dozens of demos for the various Catalinbread pedals, not sure what you're talking about?
@bardomudo8 жыл бұрын
The two latest releases from Catalinbread are the Silicon Karma Suture and the CSIDMAN. Search them on KZbin and compare the amount of demos to the latest ones of the brands I mentioned. Catalinbread has a notorious and well-known policy of not sending their pedals to be demoed by most channels other than PGS and sometimes Just Nick, CME, Reverb or sometimes a rare other one here and there. When you eventually get demos of their older pedals, which are still rare, they are generally from independent people demoing their own units. Heck, don't even need to go for latest releases, search for demos of their Callisto Chorus pedal, a 3 year-old pedal that's right there in Catalinbread's front page as their only chorus. Only 3 demos, one from PGS, one Just Nick (who says in the demo he doesn't like chorus) and a third very bad one. Compare that with the amount of demos of their pedals (new and old releases) other companies, such as the ones I mentioned, have.

"uses a full clip of silicon transistors still in the NPN / PNP configuration" Anyone know what they're driving at? All bipolar transistors are either NPN or PNP. They mentioned it for a reason (or perhaps just to shock / awe).
@weadapt8 жыл бұрын
the percolator uses one NPN and one PNP transistor in a unique arrangement to generate the harmonics. not a whole lot of pedals mix the two types since they typically dictate circuit polarity. the jordan bosstone does this, but not arranged in this way. I can't think of many other pedals that do this.
@troycvar808 жыл бұрын
it's the mating of the two opposite configurations that yields an emphasis on even order harmonics... sweeter, more musical tones

What's the best clean or low-gain boost for some Tattoo You era Stones sounds? I'm looking for something that retains or maybe even adds lows and highs, the latter of which tends to get lost with most of my dirt pedals. The Keeley Blues Driver does this well, but it sounds really harsh when you turn up the gain. I'm looking at maybe the MXR Micro Amp + or the Keeley Katana (which I've heard is surprisingly fizzy)?
@evetsiksatu8 жыл бұрын
I've tried a bunch in the low gain/boost turf and there are lots of great ones out there: JHS Morning Glory, Bondi Effects "Sick As", or my new fav: the ARC Effects "Klon" Also, if you're on a master volume amp set gain to edge of break up then just try a boost pedal.
@closertotheheart8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've tried two of those but not the "Sick As". I'll check it out.

Exactly. You're not the first person I've seen say "Catalinbread doesn't play well with ____ fill in the blank amp/head". Very few if any have admitted to actually owning one of their pedals. Not saying they're the best but there are far worse. I'm a Earth Quaker, TC, EHX kind of guy myself.

Chuck Desylva and Ge is an old romantic technology that is sensitive to temperature and open to exploitation by pedal makers. Caveat emptor. The Si pedal here is louder, brasher and more reliable than the pink Ge version. You just have to try (buy!) both 👍🏻
@heythere69832 жыл бұрын
I think the benefit with this is it’s silicon and silicon tends to sound brighter . The issue I have with regular fuzz pedals that are silicon is they are way too harsh sounding and buzzy, because they don’t emphasize even order harmonics, the odd order harmonics are more obvious and brash sounding . Since this is mostly focused on even order harmonics , it’s not so jagged and harsh sounding so I’m thinking it’s a lot more pleasant than an ultra buzzy silicon fizz. The germanium fuzzes are usually dark but maybe too dark. Since the even order harmonics aren’t ultra bright or harsh , I think combining them with silicon actually works , for extra clarity and cut

Lotta big term talk and circuitry but to most it sounds like your token fuzz-drive hybrid pedal with a couple highbrow knobs that basically juat alter the tone. meh. Andy's great as usual, and makes almost every pedal seem "special". But this one is more cork sniffer collector display case material or in a studio somewhere where a guy like Dan Auerbach might use it for an intro track or something. Not gonna be unseating too many staple dirts/fuzzes/boosts, IMO.
