This is one of the BEST explanation on the transition to second pull I have heard. When at the second pull, I only have one cue to myself: PATIENCE! PATIENCE! PATIENCE! And I repeat that to myself three times.

Greg, thanks for this great explanation on early arm bend in the clean and the clean in general. I don't think I have this issue but I do think I have the same problem you have near the end of the video. I too forget how to talk for a moment. More often than I'm likely even aware. I'm glad it's not just me.

7:00 interesting what you said, I've noticed east asian lifters initiate explosive 2nd pull very early after the bar passes the knees because they have short femurs and long torso so they dont have to stay over the bar that long (example Tian Tao), If I rush early because of my body proportions (long femurs short torso) I will end up with knees too far forward over my feet just prior to full extension any my shoulders will be way back pass the vertical line and that will mess up my balace during pulling down

No, they transition early, they do not initiate 2nd pull early.

Thank you so much for addressing this. It's been driving me crazy. Not only did I only pick up an Olympic barbell in my forties, I do have the short torso, longest limbs proportion. in the clean, as much as I try, there is always a slight arm bend.If you can in a later video, could you address the actual contact point in the lift? I can keep the bar pretty close to the body throughout but that hip/butt tilt eludes me.

I found it very interesting. One question. Does this explanation apply to the snatch as well? I mean, early arm bend in the snatch can be caused by either early second pull, or being pulled forward during first pull?

Yes, but the narrow grip part is unlikely.

hey Greg as we include pause front squat in out training can we do a clean variation where we also pause at the bottom of the clean and hold for 1 second and then get up, I know the rythm is then totally different but my take on it and I tried is that I have more control in paused squat then when I try to get up using bounce, it shifts my torso forward immediately I try to stand up and sometimes makes my back round, with added pause in clean and using less weight I have more control over movement and I can stand up with uprigh torso

I wouldn't use pause cleans. If your back is rounding and you're bouncing forward, the squat is unlikely the problem, it's the motion that gets you to the squat, i.e. you're out of balance and position. Fix the pull and the turnover, not the squat.
