After Louis reflections on his V15 dreams, I wondered if it would help him to train with another trainer and be the student for once. Don't get me wrong, from all I know he is an amazing trainer, climber, and very knowledgeable. But maybe it helps to a) add a different focus for a while and b) to put some of the burden of planning onto someone else's shoulders, so he can be more in the moment.

Louis, please don't think you're an imposter! Yes, of course there's even stronger climbers out there, but I don't watch this channel because I think you're the strongest climber in the world. (Although I am still in awe at your level.) You're my favourite youtuber because of the great training advice, the positivity, the editing style (this video was brilliant, btw!), and the weird fashion choices. You deserve every bit of positive attention you're receiving. Have a bit of faith in us viewers. There's thousands of us, and we're here because we have good taste. 😉

Something that makes me love Louis so much is that he has this harsh inner critic and is so open about how negative his own mindset can be, and yet he is the gentlest, most supportive and positive person to every other climber he meets. His positivity isn’t fake-it comes from a deep understandjng of toxic negativity and a personal struggle with it. He doesn’t act like he’s above the psychological issues that he preaches about often. That makes me trust your advice and also-wish you would treat yourself with all the kindness you give to others! That reflection was one of the loveliest bits of climbing philosophy I’ve heard in a long time. Thank you for sharing. You may not be the greatest climber but you’re definitely one of my favourites.

Louis, please never doubt your success. You have an incredible skill that sets you apart from all the others. There are very few, if any, climbers at your level that are able to impart their knowledge upon anyone willing to learn while retaining an unmistakable positivity and infectious psyche quite like you can. So don't worry about not being the "best" climber. Just be yourself ❤

I don't watch because you're a good climber, I watch you because you're an exceptional coach, who makes really entertaining videos (and has an awesome cat). The emotional chat was my favourite bit of the video btw and would love to see more of it in future :)
@neensever3 ай бұрын
I LOVED the more personal "rambling" about the emotional aspect of climbing and what progress even means on an individual level. I think it is so important to talk about this and show the humanity behind it, the insecurities and how to still enjoy climbing - because otherwise, what is the point? I hope more men can open up, because the gurlies are already doing it and they're making the climbing community a wonderful space of happiness and compassion. Not without struggles, but the whole experience just comes through as multifaceted, as it should.

This video is awesome, Louis and Catalyst crew! Louis, your perspective and mindset here - and how you're feeling physically - remind me of Magnus. It feels like he's recently had the 'fire in his belly' re-ignited by interactions with people like Tomoa, Dave Mac and Stefano G - he seems to have got a lot of his climbing mojo back and I see a new sense of joy in his current climbing-specific videos (both on his main and secondary channel) and motivation to train and try hard. I also noticed Bob Swagger say in Emil's latest (awesome) video that he might have only five more years of real 'try hard' left in parkour, but sees himself climbing way into the future. I'm rambling, but I guess I'm saying - as a comparative old lady who only started climbing last year aged 43 - climbing is one of those sports you can always find ways to continue evolving even if your circumstances, situations, focus and motivations may shift. Really enjoyed this. Straightforward, entertaining, but still insightful.

Love it Louie. Very relatable. Having gone through cancer twice in the last 4 years, I have also come to the conclusion that I can still enjoy climbing even if I’m not at my best ever level. But of course I m motivated to try to get back to and beyond. And if I don’t that’s ok too I’ll still be grateful for having such a fulfilling lifestyle. Your dialogue about self talk I think is great for a lot of people to hear. And we watch you for you man, not for the grade level. You’re a great coach we all learn a lot from you.

I really appreciate the hobby psychology in this video. Self doubt is a hell of a drug, and it is helpful that you share tips on how to deal with it and it is heartwarming to hear about your own struggles with it. Personally I like your channel because you are funny, knowledgeable, introspective and really good at breaking down climbs and teaching about climbing. I think having Sam as camera man also has improved your channel as y’all have a great rapport. Both of y’all seem like really great guys. I really appreciated the bit on comparing oneself to one’s younger self. I only started climbing at 40, and I have a tendency to kick myself for not having started in my teens/twenties. I was doing buildering without knowing it was called something, but for some reason I never thought to try actual rock despite growing up in a huge climbing town. C’est la vie.

What I love about you Louis, which I feel prompted to say after hearing you speak about your imposter syndrome, is that 1) you're a coach, and so I feel like you're always after people's potential, you can see that in people. You never judge people or their skill level. 2) You're relatable. I feel like elite climbers, while they're amazing and incredibly talented, it can just feel a little bit harder to relate to them because they've surpassed the average climber to such a degree that it's kind of like, were in different worlds. Whereas, even though you're also extremely talented, there's no denying that, you feel closer, like I can aim to be as good as you. Where as I wouldn't necessarity aim to be as good as an olympian because that's madness, but I can aim to be as good as you. 3) Your personality, your humor, your way of explaining, it's just lovely and entertaining to watch! Thanks for doing what you do, it inspires me on my climbing journey!

The chat about mindset and emotions was very important. We have to remember that we aren't machines, and our health, wellbeing and mental states fluctuate all the time. My climbing was garbage for the last few weeks, then, last week i managed to climb a pitch that has huge pinches, my least favourite hold, after failing it over and over for weeks. I wasn't too keen to try it again as i thought there was no point. My belay partner persuaded me that was why i ought to do it. I just thought i wasn't going to enjoy it, so what's the point!? Turned out i enjoyed it because i finally beat it and learnt so much in the process. And i'm not old too, i'm 53. 😀
