I know you may never read this, but id like to thank you for making a lengthy rule book so simple to understand! My family plays this every weekend, and its definitely brought us together. We already have seafarers, so I wanted to add this as our next expansion. Thank you so much for this, ill be showing this as a tutorial video before we play this weekend.

This is the best expansion. Traders and barbarians has way too many game types, and seafarers is a bit too simple. This is just the right amount of novelty to make it interesting

Seafarers goes with the base game like Peanut butter and jelly. It was to be included with the main game anyway but they scrapped it last minute for some reason because of the cost to include it and to simplify the game. I always recommend that people get Seafarers first and go from there. That said.. Cities and Knights is great.. albeit very different. Traders and Barbarians adds some great variety as well. It’s Catan.. you can’t lose either way.

Okay there is one optional rule regarding the barbarian defence (up to players) Rather than using all knights, each player (starting from the player that rolled the die) decides how many of their active knights do they contribute to the cause. This makes for an interesting diplomatic round as weakest player might have to offer a stronger player resources to send enough knights to defend so he doesn’t lose his only city.

This along with Seafarers and the 5-6 player expansion packs is the most epic way to play Catan. Imagine all this with more than double the map size, and gold resource hexes. Where da gold at?!?!

Really enjoying this expansion but I have a few gripes. 1. The game gets too long. two, sometimes three hours per game, and I've yet to add sea farers expansion. With the new currency, players tend to move away from building things that count victory points and focus more on knights and unlocking buildings. This makes early game really slow. 2. Progress cards (new development cards) vary in strength. Some feel useless and some extremely strong. All luck based. 3. You can now spam progress cards. With the new rule removing 1 development card per turn (but limiting to max 4 progress cards), you can unleash all your progress cards at once to do some real damage. This feels a bit too strong and can really destroy and unmotivate a player.

We actually use a white die and a yellow die (where the yellow is used for progress card placement).

How to decide wich city gets reduced to settlement? For example what if i have a city and a metropolis? Metropolis doesnt count right? but what if i have more cities, how do i decide wich one goes?

These needs to be a little more detail on using knights and upgrading Knights. For example, how many of your Knights are allowed on the board at any one time? I thought upgrading a knight meant I couldn't reuse a lower level knight? Thanks.

You can have as many knights as you have pieces. If you upgrade a knight, the lower level knight goes back in your stash where you can buy it and place it on the board if you have the resources.

bourne817 its 2 of each type, so you’ll have 2 basic knights, two strong knights and two mighty knights. You build them like roads and settlements.
