I believe going to the wood port would have given you a better shot at winning. You shared the 6 ore with black, whose only source of ore was that number. It was for sure going to spend a lot of time being blocked, so you would need to make every unblocked 6 roll count. Porting the ore makes it kind of inefficient. Wood port + extra sheep production would have helped you get that first city on the 10-5-8. Love your content man please keep these vids coming

rough game for sure, i think 6 ore blocked was definitely the biggest weakness of the setup but the blocks were weird too

I was black here. Still can’t believe I didn’t win, but on rewatch I’m not sure where I misplayed. If anyone has insight lmk. Just didn’t get the knights I needed to take army, or the VPs. Also sorry for the sarcasm in the chat, can’t help myself sometimes on a long run of game

I'm certainly a worse player than you, and I like the creativity, but in my experience going for road on a board that's so high on ore and wheat is losing. Even if you manage to expand and get many more numbers, you will struggle 2 much in building your 1st city and you will be stuck at 5 settlements for 2 long... By the time you get the city, ows players are alredy pulling devs for their 10th point.

I am certainly aware of the risks. The challenge long term was the imbalance of blue's play against the massive wheat port player - We needed wheat to be competitive enough to keep us in the game. If I can stay off the radar, get that early city, and have a slightly more favorable variance, then I am in a very playable spot. Didn't work this time! :)

I guess the age old adage "no wheat equals defeat" is still true.. that was a rough one with those imbalanced dice rolls and typically terrible choices made by the bot.

Going Wheatless when everyone has more ore than wheat I think is pretty rough. Nobody wants to trade their wheat on this board so it’s always losing.

God I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets blown away by single number tiles dominating a board. Sometimes you build up a logical plan, and one tile just hits on repeat throwing the balance off completely. It happens. I was surprised you didn't go with the open OWS placement. Although in hindsight it wouldn't have hit as much as the 9s. What do you think about your second placement maybe being the other 6 3 11 with double wood instead because you had the 8 sheep, and trying to rush to wheat? or even placing on the 6 11 12? Anyway, well played, brutal dice stats.

Should have definitely taken 4 5 11 because you can lock black out of sheep and either get ore for sheep trades or keep them from army

Red obviously busted the wood port strategy but I think taking the 4511 is a better 2nd placement. The problem with the 6 ore is blue and red will block it constantly. You can build towards the 510 and possibly be giving the plough to the wheat port. Red also possibly ploughs black on the 61112 and the 6 ore is blocked most of the early game. It also ensures black is desperate for sheep most of the game.

This was very similar to the game I played yesterday with no wheat except they ignored another players devs and blocked me way more than they should've since getting cities was going to be very difficult (a mono also killed me by taking my guaranteed city). In the end the ows player easily beat me by 3 points.

Would have gone wood or 3:1 port vs. ore port as 6 gets blocked all day coz of black

great game! appreciate that you kept fighting till the end. in the future, i hope you'll try using more gender neutral pronouns (they, their, or their colour) to refer other players- it'll definitely encourage more gender inclusivity in online catan.

I know DyLighted has told everyone no wheat equals defeat but I don't believe that to be true - I've used MANY no wheat setups in competitive play. Here, we had a horrible mixture of dice variance, board coordination, and bad timing on a few situations. I believed 8410 most likely gets stomped by the wheat port long term UNLESS the board is willing to help and that was not a risk I wanted to take at this level... I've also played with some of these players before and knew a little bit about their past willingness to help the board.
