I messed up there after rewatching it. I think I confused the terms since he gave me the nonblock for the 61112. I should have given him a nonsteal and not be on autopilot in that moment - It was not intentional. This is a good reminder to write the terms in the chat if you make deals.

@@californiaplant-basedeater2761 You'd have to get hella lucky with 2 devs for them to be more valuable than 2 victory points and the additional production, frankly you could argue no 2 cards would be worth that. @@DrOmegaBattleSphere I had edited it. Maybe you saw the original. At first I had thought that he needed to fight for army, then realized he could just 4x city as he had two dev vps. Then I continued watching and he had just won the game as black hadn't built the fifth road. It was a good catch by him. He had a mono to facilitate it should the opportunity arise. Have a nice day

It’s easy to say they “just” did this or that but there were lots of subtle moves that helped facilitate these opportunities to happen. It’s very easy to get caught up in a competitive game of catan and let certain things slip past the radar.

I messed up there. I honor my nb/ns deals almost always unless we are losing and significant time has passed, but I genuinely made a mistake there and should have given him the nonsteal. some table talk to me NICE but a couple lies in there like “dw I’ll play a knight” at the end was a little slimy
@dandydrew Жыл бұрын
I understand why you might not like that move. Not honoring the nonsteal deal was an honest mistake but I did say I would play a knight when I didn’t have one which strategically took a little bit of heat off of me while I am trying to secure road for the win. My general take to most people is NOT to lie as it could ruin your in game credibility BUT if that move will help me secure the win I believe it’s more justified and strategically the move. I believe there is an interesting discussion about “deception” as a principle in catan and how people draw lines. For instance - Dirty mono is okay, threatening a bluff knight is okay, but out right saying “I will play a knight” when I won’t is not okay. These are all forms of deception but not all weighted equal to some.
@feb_7 Жыл бұрын
@@dandydrew Dirty mono, cutting off, plowing, solo/gang blocking are intrinsic dynamics of the game and players have the chance of evaluating the different positions, make mistakes or good calls. Bluffing and lying are on a different layer, they are mind games on your opponents. You often offer to port resources for other players, or doing assurance. Would you consider not returning the cards? Would you call it a deception if someone did not return yours? Everyone has opinions, and deception does not break the rules, so there's no point in trying to convince each others. But I believe that boards are more fun if you play the game, and not play the players.

@@dandydrewsure, mostly you're manipulating intuitively, except for the multiple instances where you are calculating. "I need to not make this enemy early, let me get on comms" is a calculation, "I bet I can trade some ore here and mono" is a calculation, "maybe they won't notice roads here" is a calculation, etc etc. The concept that you have to have a deep, coherent plan in order to be manipulative I think fails to describe many manipulators. There is chess like stockfish plays and chess like leela plays; there is more than one way to seek control.

you don´t want to leave a 3rd settlement spot on the 9 ore open, for someone to place on or build to. looking at the numbers, statistically, having a firm grip on the ore should be one of your main advantages. I mean, the way the game played out, with 3 and 11 both rolling more often then the 9, kinda negated that part of the strategy, but anyway...

I like yours and Dylan's videos, but I don't like the narrative that you both carry on in your channels. In lost games, often "this player did not recognise the threat, "they let them run away with the game", "the table was not collaborative". In won games, "good game", "insane play". I wish analysis were more objective, but I understand it's difficult with a community to entertain. I'll keep watching your videos 'cause you are a great player and entertainer, but what kind of message are you sending to your viewers? Please everyone, take a break from the lying/table talk discussion and take this comment as it is, I'm not trying to spreading any kind of hate:)

I love this comment. I actually have mentioned this in a stream recently but not in the videos - The rank #1 videos were played a few weeks ago and I was having a bad time during filming those. I made a conscious decision to step away from the games and reflect on it for a few weeks. Honestly…I had a bad attitude and out look in pre and post analysis. I agree I haven’t been sharing the most productive analysis (regardless of results) and I need to be better for taking accountability for the things I can control. I really appreciate your feedback and genuine critique as all improving players AND content creators need help. I am doing my best to improve the experience for myself but also for the audience. It’s not easy as every move I make gets 4-5 different suggestions about what is “right”. I do agree with you in this case and want to improve the messaging for everyone’s sake. Thank you - DD
