I loved the Cataphracts, the versatility and all the defensive bonuses, as I've always been the "build a crazy elaborate network of wall and tower death traps and lure army after army to its doom while barely having any military units of my own" kind of player.

God watching T90s opinion swing 180 degrees on Cata was so satisfying. For anyone who doesn't love the numbers of AoE like I do, the reason Heavy Camel is so good against cavalry is that they have +18 damage against cavalry units. But Elite Catas negate 16 of that damage, so its really only +2. Cataphracts also have the splash damage, and 2 more armor in melee, and 1 more displayed attack (10+2 compared to 7+4 from the camels.) AND they attack 15% faster too. Which all adds up to, basically, if your opponent is fully into cataphracts in mid-late imp like this, you don't kill them with traditional cavalry counters. You either take advantage of their lower pierce armor and use mass arbalests, or you win with even heavier cavalry (Paladin, Boyars, Coustilliers, etc etc).

I honestly think red should have swapped to cavaliers after seeing the catas. They're slightly more expensive, but do like twice as much damage because catas have a whopping 16 anti-cav bonus armor

@@indraallian6371 Ideally yeah, i'd just swap to Camel Archer + Hussar (cata's do stupid damage to pikemen), but considering Red insisted on running his stables 100% of the time on gold units, it would have been better to make Cavalier than the camels cause of the +2 armor, +3 attack, and faster attack rate. This is especially true since Cata's only have 1 pierce armor, compared to the possible 3 blue could have had if he went paladins instead (though I guess the heavy camel/pikemen combo did a good job of driving off any chance of that happening)

Byzantine, one TC, supremely effective ECO, conserving your stone until absolutely needed, no army before Imp, all-in cataphracts, even upgrading them to max when you have just two of 'em :D . Damn, once again shows that Catas are insane value. Even outnumbered, uphill, they are a pain to deal with. Your best bet is an arb/monk/scorpion composition to have any hope against them.

Cataphracts have a hidden bonus damage negation of like 10, so camels lose most of their damage increase against them. Best counters are mounted archers or siege/monk combination

Cata, having the defense against anti cav bonus simply cancel out camel's and pike's bonuses. And when it comes to raw stats, they own both. Best way to deal with them are archers/CA or simply heavy cav. In this case, Berber's fully upgraded, cheaper cavelier would do great with a group of camel archers support.

Actually camels do have bonus damage against Cataphracts. The Cataphracts just have a lot of Anti-Bonus-Damage-Armor, so the Camels do basically nothing...

I think you should be able to scavenge some resources from ruined buildings. Like castles, for example, historically people would steal stones from them to use for building.

Most counter-intuitive thing in AOE2 by far is Turkish Jannisary's not being good against infantry or having bonus damage versus them. Second most unituitive thing is that Camels have bonus damage vs. Camels. Third most is Ghulams taking bonus damage from cavalry. Cataphracts don't come close, as their whole thing is resistance to counter units and infantry destruction.

Its common knowledge. Even viking champions are great anti cav (unless its paladin or cataphracts). Cataphracts actually deny anti cav bonus from genoese - but with their little pierce armor, they still do well. Korean wagon and hand cannons can deal with skirms pretty well, they just need armor and some microing.

Go play ranked and show em what's up. It sucks losing a lot when you first start but eventually you find your niche and the elo system works you into a barrel of fun. Just don't fall into the trap of only playing team games then thinking you should talk crap to losing players because your team carried you and you didn't realize lol

Both sides are using Pikes/ Halbs... neither side remembered their armor upgrades. If Blue had his armor on those Halbs the match would have been like 12 minutes shorter lol. If any lower ELO players want some quick and easy advice on how to improve, always remember your Blacksmith upgrades. They offer crazy value, way more than you'd think.

Great game! This is how AOE2 should be played in my oppinion. Thats why I will never reach any ELO 😋 You fight with army and not with buildings. You fight THE army not the economy. (just a little maybe) Blue didnt kill many vills and only took out 1 TC. Still he won couse he made the better army and played it well. 😎

Cataphracts are the ultimate middle finger to anyone trying to run only counter units. The only way to beat Cataphracts is to just outstat them, you need an equally strong power unit to beat them. At least, thats true in the late game, the obvious solution is dont let them build up the full elite cata setup because they are expensive as fuck but if you for some reason cant you need stuff like Paladins or something, you cant rely on counter units because they will always lose
