That's what puts me off getting a concentric slave for my 1275cc MG Midget-engined Minor Traveller, having had to replace one on a Vauxhall Corsa C 1.0 once, which was a right royal PITA, both to fit and to bleed. The standard carbon thrust bearings do wear fairly quickly, but at least are relatively simple to change; last time I did mine, I slid the engine forward off the gearbox on a trolley jack and was able to reach in to change it.

Doug, That point of realisation that we have to start all over again and the time & work we have put in has been for nothing is gut wrenching 😒 Cheers Dave

What a nightmare Dave I guess the lesson learned is “just say no!”, cobbled together conversions are just a disaster…. Sorry but I guess that doesn’t help other than to say good luck getting it all fixed and you’re a braver man than I am, Kind regards, Richard.

Richard, Your 100% correct I have too much of my own work & projects to be spending time on other peoples problems 😉It is a saga for sure but I said the same thing when the seal blew that's IT the final nail in the coffin of doing any work for anybody🤔 Basically the 4 poster ramp as been off limits for a week😠 Cheers Dave

Stuart, Your spot on there🤔 I will get the box back out tomorrow as I couldn't face it this afternoon as I thought we were just going to put it all back together and I‘m glad we didn't as that would have been another hour down the swanny. Cheers Dave

How often does it happen, you help a friend and it turns into a saga. But that's what friends do. I had a similar problem with SU carbs on my Cooper S there is a locating pin that holds them at the correct angle to keep the float bowls vertical. A previous owner had broken the pin. I carefully drilled a small hole and fitted a new pin.

Stewart, I have always liked the Morris travellers and I took the job on out of nostalgia more than anything else tbh🤔I was going to balance the carbs anyway as Bernard mentioned how poor the mileage is but now they will need a good overhaul to see what else is wrong. Cheers Dave

@@ClassicCarCave You'd be better off fitting a single HIF 44 - they give as much power as twin 1.25" SUs, with far better driveability, economy and less aggro. I get around 40mpg on average on my 1275cc MG Midget-engined Traveller.

What a mess Dave . What is the story with the float cambers . Cheers Pete.

Pete, It‘s a ball ache but we have no other options but to take the gearbox out to repair the leak, We saw silver foil around the rear carb float bowl from under the car which I think may have been put there for some kind of heat shield from the exhaust but it‘s as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike 🤣😂 I was going to balance the carbs anyway so I would have picked up that they're loose. Cheers Dave

Dave I love how you run through the components and what is going to take place. Just a shame the end result wasn’t as planned but a new day and you’ll have it sorted. As you say “Keep the faith” Looking forward to the next episode.

Pete, Strangely enough it runs pretty sweet After 4 or 5 attempts to lift the box and line it up I was tempted to take the long route and take the engine out as the front comes off and you can slide them straight out. It‘s a good run from the UK 🤣😂 Cheers Dave

Thank you I try to work through why & how we are going to do something but I did the intro the night before we started the gearbox modification and fitting it back in and I did say IF it works or not🤔 We will get it sorted I‘m concerned the seal will be damaged so I will pressure it up in a vice to make sure the seal is good and holds pressure as I don‘t want to revisit this situation. Cheers Dave
