11:18 - yeah, ABS is NEAT! And they keep getting better. In Norway, every bike has it. I really don´t get why someone would repel it, when you see results like these. Now, I agree, getting one brown stage like that should teach them, at least for the rest of that ride, that they might be pushing it a bit too far.

6:14 I also wonder if he's SO lazer focused on racing that blue car (they're both doing 100Mph) that his brain failed to see the white car at all and he simply drove into the back of it right when he went to accelerate. Either way, he wasn't focused on riding, he was white stage because all his attention was given to the blue car.
@olenilsen46602 ай бұрын
45 yo driver here, these things can and will happen if you don´t always focus on your driving. I bet he just grew some horns, and his attention was immediately drawn to this playmate (No, not in the Hefner way! ;). Observing and evaluating multiple other drivers/riders and their intent comes with a lot of practice and experience, but unless you´re working on developing that understanding, you´re not going to get there very fast. My advice is to pay close attention to the one thing that is most important for you to have a safe ride, but force yourself to move your eyes all the way to the sides in front of you, it´s so easy to get tunnel vision. And check your mirrors often, keep track of anything moving up from behind. That way you won´t be surprised when something´s suddenly in your blind spot. I´ve had two minor fender benders when I was 18-20. Not a single incident since.
@HawgRiderBC2 ай бұрын
I've been riding motorcycles for about 50 years now, and I've never had my front tire more than 2 feet off the ground. Any time I consider doing a wheelie, the little "Dan voice" in my head says, "Don't."
@olenilsen46602 ай бұрын
That´s how I like it as well. I mean, i did it on my dirtbike when I was 15, but on big bikes, the only wheelie that counts, is a power wheelie ;) Either way, I´m old enough now to just enjoy the ride with both wheels on the ground. Funny how it´s just another story of how youth is wasted on the young. These days, I could easily have done all that stupid stuff with minimal risk of failure. I´m just too old to bother trying to look cool ;)
@HawgRiderBC2 ай бұрын
@olenilsen4660 Power wheelies are all I do as well. However, it's been a lot easier since I bought my BMW S1000XR a year ago since the bike's power to weight ratio is far higher than my Harley.

15:02 @DanDanTheFireman - Greece. Very specific alphabet, European plates with 3 letters and 4 numbers on the cars. Older plates doesn´t have the blue stripe with the nationality on it, like that Civic. IDK where in Greece, tho, I´ve only driven on islands myself, and those are smaller roads where everyone drives fast, but they´re still very considerate. Very different culture than Norway, where I´m from. Works well if you can keep the pace, but if you´re unsure, don´t think to stop until you´ve got a safe place to move over, people will get very annoyed, and clogging up traffic might cause an accident in the end. Which in turn makes the annoyance legit, I think. This dude, however, was just riding like a CU next Tuesday...

Just curious, @ about 3 min mark, the rider slowed down and went in front of the van. I've heard so many people recommend turning towards where a velhcile is from. Figuring they are more likely to gun it forward than go in reverse. Anyone else here this advice?
@kurrie32802 ай бұрын
Yes, I agree with you that a driver is much more likely to move forward than reverse.
@olenilsen46602 ай бұрын
Sure, if that´s a viable option. Same with wildlife. However, in this situation I don´t see how he could even have made the right swerve. And it looks like the car also slowed down when they saw what was coming. So yeah, if you can, get behind - it´s going to take them a lot longer to slam it in reverse and hit you... But if that was their plan in this case, they´d have to start the maneuver a lot earlier. Also, consider that everything looks further away on camera. It´s a real thing, not just something every dashcammer claims when they messed up.
@olenilsen46602 ай бұрын
15:35 - They obviously had to wait at a distance for that pump when they wanted to move against "traffic". However, doing this, you need to know that nobody else can see that you´re waiting. So I´d rather go in line with "the people of my side" fuel cap... So I get it. I also get the aggravated guy that tried to hand signal his version from inside the car, and the biker that flipped him the bird because he was scared that he was trying to run him over... Now, after the guy in the car explained it, and the biker told his story - the biker could just calm down and realize that he was actually cutting in front of the line. Why continue the rant? He sounds liek a kid that was just told he couldn´t get candy for breakfast...
@Motodidakt2 ай бұрын
I have a safety question: Say you're approaching a light behind a line of cars. There's 2 lanes (both evenly backed up with cars waiting at the light) and a shoulder, you're in the right lane, and as you approach you want to set yourself up with an escape route when you stop. Is it better to use the shoulder or the center line as your escape route? I usually stay towards the center with the idea that if someone were to be a rear ending risk, they'd be more likely to try to swerve towards the shoulder. On the flip side, I guess you'd be more likely to get crushed between cars in the center. 🤷♂️

12:58 - I bet he was making a wide turn because in the US, even truck drivers doesn´t need any training to get their license... Here in Europe, almost every truck is a cabover, and they don´t need to get as far over. But truckers have enough training to know exactly what space they need, and other traficants are trained to watch out for them making those turns. BE CONSIDERATE is the mantra in every single aspect of our training. I guess in the US, it´s more like: I´m in the right, I´ll sue you! Even though it means a biker meeting this one head on at 45.... IDK, I just feel sorry that so many unnecessary accidents happen because of simple things like this. I did 20-25 hrs of training, worth about $3,000 for my license. It taught me a lot of valuable stuff, and It´ll last me a lifetime unless I do stupid things. That´s a good deal in my book. Also, I know everybody else on my roads have the same training. Makes me feel pretty safe out there. I really wish that the US will come around as well, also with the first aid. Part of our training is how to rescue people by the road, because the first person on the scene is almost always another motorist. Knowing how to resuscitate without killing people is a great thing. I could never do the "not my accident" thing! But then again, we won´t get sued if that person ends up in a wheelchair because I made a tiny mistake.
