Mullet slab with a pilchard together on the same hook works best for me. The fish down deep love the combo as the pilchard acts as burly on the first bite. As much blue light really works well to draw them in. Do a lot of deep dropping off Goldy. A 1kw low freq transducer will be showing bottom beautifully. Looks like a great day out.

It's looks like you are using a Shimano (Beastmaster or Forcemaster) 9000. I have a Forcemaster 9000 that is fully spooled with 510M of 130 lb. of Seaguar Threadlock braid. Just curious what size braid you are using? At 2,000 feet, I would have completely spooled my reel. When you hit 2,400 feet, it looks like you still have a significant amount of braid left on your reel.
@CoastalChaosAdventures4 ай бұрын
Heya mate I run 80lb braid on mine I find it’s pretty plenty strong enough but allows capacity and cuts through the water well to reduce drag on the super deep drops 👌🤙

Awesome video Bud. We do a bit of deep dropping here off Sydney in 500-600m. We hit bottom then come up about 20m or so, so ya don't get snagged. Ya need to slow ya retrieval down a bit. Flat out ripps the fish off the hooks at time's. 1/2 to 3/4 max speed unless sharks are an issue. Keep em coming bud. Another camera angle be good to. Lol.
@CoastalChaosAdventures5 ай бұрын
Yea right!! What do you pull out of those depths down your way? Cheers for the tips it’s all new to me at that depth haha hoping to find a stray blue eye or something along those lines. Generally I run a few cameras but I’m a GoPro down atm and she’s a shit show trying to film solo with a SLR and tripod out on the water 😂😂 saving up the penny’s for a replacement then I’ll be back to multiple cameras again 👌🤙✅

@@CoastalChaosAdventures gemfish, blue eye, bass grouper, bar cod occasionally to name a few. The guy's slow pitch jigging there get Dory's, Alfons and other weird thing's. . study ya maps and look for close circle's which means a sea mount or along depth edges look for kinks. Fish sit along those.. If you have Navionics app study that that's what i do. They are off a bit out there but you get close to the spots. I find they can be 40-50m off.

@@bennybfishnyea Rodgee I did exactly that when I went out this trip haha if you have a look at the ground off the Fraser Island shelf it’s all wild stuff kinda hard to get a distinct feature amongst it all but I lucked out on the area I was trying so I’ll look for something different and give that a crack next time. @@CoastalChaosAdventures yeah but they are few and far between these day's the long liner's have taken a good wack of them. I'll have a look on Navionics myself for ya and see if anything jumps out on me and ill put GPS mark's for ya to try. Where do ya launch from?
@bennybfishn5 ай бұрын
@@CoastalChaosAdventures I've had a little suss on Navionics behind Frazer island north and south and found a few good drop offs and and kinks i reckon would hold some decent fish.
@warwickmilne31495 ай бұрын
if you slow your retrieval rate you will get more fish to the boat. going full speed like that rips the hooks out of the mouth
@CoastalChaosAdventures5 ай бұрын
Cheers for the tip. I don’t run locked up drag so even with high revs the fish still don’t have much strain on them causing losses mid water. More to get them up past the sharks which are a big issue in my local area. Gets expensive when they start taking your rigs half way up.
@warwickmilne31495 ай бұрын
@@CoastalChaosAdventures have you tried the Rpelx shark deterrent device that attaches to your line and when you winch in it floats down to cover your fish in a protective bubble. i would highly recommend looking at one, it would make for a great video just testing it.

So Icon, I'm by no means schooled in this type of fishing and have a few questions. First, I have seen guys in Florida using much beefier set ups for things like Tilefish, Queen Snapper etc. all the way up to Swordfish. How much torque does that power reel have, and what kind of drag is there in lbs or nm? Those Flametails are spectacular, so darn pretty and by your accounts one tasty fish too, but what else do you have down there in the deep that you might run into? I have heard of critters like Gemfish, Blue Nose (Blue Eye Trevella), Bass Groper and my favourite Pink Ling Cod but do you have Swordfish in your waters? The Whale footage was Stunning, such gorgeous and graceful beings for their size! Excellent drone footage my Friend!! I have some news, I launched a "Go Fund Me" campaign a couple weeks ago when I came across a decent fat tire Electric Trike for sale that needs a bit of work. Within a week I had topped my goal of $1250.00 to $1350.00. I sourced out the new battery and connectors for it and I have a host of other parts here from my days riding mountain bikes so for much, much less than they are new or even working second hand I have a trike I can use year round because of the fat tires and it being a trike. I'm very excited to get the bike here so I can get stuck in and get it up and on the road!! I have never done a "Go Fund Me" before and I was surprised at the reaction from my friends, very humbling. Well that's it for now my Icon, I hope you had an incredible supper (it looked Amazing, by the way) and my Love to You, Tal and Abella, and the Pups, Bazz and Indi!!! Take care - Dave

Big fella!! First of all congratulations on the new wheels!! That will be a game changer 👌✅🔥 always good to know your mates have your back 😊 I ways of reel specs I actually have no idea haha but I will be getting a new one soon and when I do I’ll do a full rundown of what the specs are in the episode for you :) In ways of species we generally get flame tail, ruby snapper and bar cod. There a few elfonzini and ornate jobfish amongst them but that super deep stuff isn’t well documented in my area so your guess is as good as mine haha I suppose that’s what make it exciting 😊😊. If I do sound anything remotely swordfish looking I’ll be sending a big bait down for sure haha
@canucklehead05 ай бұрын
@@CoastalChaosAdventures Yeah they use full squid as bait with flashers or glow in the dark bits sewn into the bait so it will attract Swordfish. and some of those things are properly massive! Some of the Swords that Nick Stanz out of the Florida Keys has brought in would likely sink the Scout, and we don't want that!! Thanks for the kind words about friends and the new wheels, I'll keep you up to speed on any interesting work I do to it!! What kind of reel are you aiming for, something else from Shimano, or from a company like Miya Epoch or Penn International and some of the drive systems they have? I've seen Daiwa's new electric set up and it looks pretty sweet too, so much to choose from, happy shopping!! Speaking of, I need to figure out what size of battery this Trike is in need of and cost one out. Talk to you soon!! Love to everyone there!!!

@CoastalChaosAdventures5 ай бұрын
all good mate it’s not for everyone as you would have seen I tried jigging that depth but didn’t have the line capacity. It’s more the excitement of the unknown. I don’t know if you’ve manually wound up from 500m before but after one drop your pretty much cooked it’s a lot different straight winding 2kgs of weight up than it is fighting a fish and having some adrenaline behind it. Anyone that can fish that depth manually all day with 2kg plus of sinker I take my hat off to them haha I’m not fit enough to do it.
