Not even going to read the comments because I’m guessing people are butthurt about him cooking a largemouth. Fact of the matter is that it’s legal and no different than eating a crappie or any other fish.

The Bass taste secret: some shallow/weedy/warm water bass can be stout. Deep/cold water bass are as good as walleye. The trick is this: for all white flesh fish, dissolve 2 heaping tablespoons of salt, and one of baking soda, in a gallon of cold water. Rinse the fillets well in cold water, then leave them in this solution for 24-48 hours. Tbey will be firm, mild, and delicious. This will work in any white fleshed fish, but not on trout or salmon, which will just get mushy...er.

Largemouth imho is a decent fish for the table as long as it is close to the limit size. As they get larger/older just let them go for the next angler to catch. Apex predators in many American lakes build up toxins as they age. I think spots actually taste better, maybe because they are usually legal to harvest at a smaller size. Love the video man!

My kids (now in their 20's) and I fish a 40 acre lake (30 ft. deep) in northern WI with lg. and small mouth bass. No motors in the lake and you can see 15 ft. down. The lake is land locked and I have not bought a license in about 20 years. It is a spring fed lake and very clean. We can usually catch 7 or 8 keeper fish in an hour. I use the same recipe and the fish taste awesome. The lake used to have big gills, sun fish and the occasional crappie. Now we only see bass and they seem to be smaller than back in the 80's. The lake needs to be fished more to allow the bass to grow. Back in the early 60's, walleye were introduced but they slowly went away. I think most people that wouldn't consider eating bass have only tasted bass from an over boated, oily water lake contaminated by pollution. Clean bass cooked properly are very good!

With the exception of Tarpon, the very essence of being a "game" fish is in it's suitability as table fare. A great example is the Walleye: often tight lipped, and certainly not revered for its aggressive behavior or it's fighting prowess, it is considered a game fish none the less.

Come up north and catch walleye! You'd loose your mind at how good it is. Just do like a northern USA trip, catch pike, walleye, rock bass, big smallies, etc.

You got a boat now. Go fish for some walleye. I just tried it fairly recently. Defiantly a great fish to eat.

I used to turn wrenches in a boat shop and the guys would give me a hard time cause I kept bass to eat. I would do fish frys with the bass I saved up and tell the bass fisherman that it was catfish. They raved about it. Saying it was the best fish they ever had.

The way you catch pickerel is by jig fishing, been fishing it my whole life and that’s all i’ve ever used to catch it mostly.

The thing about largemouth bass is if the water is slack and warm like small lakes in July and August they can taste kind of muddy especially if they are over 2 or 3 pounds spring bass are very tasty however. Of coarse this pretty much goes for all fresh water fish with the possible exception of bluegills , not sure why ,but bluegills seem to taste good regardless of water temperature.
