*Hi all, so I shed a tear. I feel too. When people do right, I feel the rightness, and to me that's what makes me tick. That's what I strive to do in my daily life to do good by the people around me and genuinely help them in a way that moves them closer to what they want; success and happiness.* *Maybe I seem uncaring, at times, but caring comes in many forms. Part of what I do here helps make my family more safe and secure, and puts a house and food on the table. I can see that I'm having a positive impact, and that's good.* *I have parents for kids that I coach in hockey come up all the time and express their gratitude for reaching out individually to the kids. But that's not why I do it, I do it because I know what it's like to be a kid and what it's like to have a positive mentor and what it's like to have someone bigger than you looking out for you - to know they have your back. My aim is always to find that one little thing that I know their kid is capable of doing right now, but aren't, and moving them toward this. To one kid, it might be just getting them the skill to stop, to another, it might be to calm them down and have them focus on the small things without getting frustrated, to another, it might be to help them look at the ice and the players around them in a way that makes it easier for them to run a strategy. Each kid has a set of issues they face, a set of challenges, some of them are physical, some are emotional and some are psychological or personality based, but every kid can be helped to be better and push forward. Sometimes, just one little trick, tip, demonstration, or talk can have a huge impact on their game and in turn, their life.* *I hope I can inspire you to take control of whatever it is that is holding you back and push forward. Please if you can, read through some of the comments and give each other some help. I will do my best to catch up on all these wonderful stories you've shared. I really wish you all well - always, no matter how differently we might see the world.*

Well, you know you’ve inspired me. About the tearing thing. As men, having our feelings squashed entirely is almost as bad and unhealthy as being emasculated and being expected to be OVERLY soft and sensitive. A healthy balance is a healthy balance. We are human. We have emotions. You were having those feelings for all the right reasons and there’s nothing wrong with that. Keep on going on brother, good stuff.

I seem to be just another voice in the same choir as yourself; your channel is transcending the same old jaded outdoor videos(which I still enjoy sometimes ) and becoming a platform for your passion and it has made me question my own balance with family, friends and work. I just recently turned 40 and it is amazing how my 30's seemed to expand my own philosophy and I chose to stop blocking out those primal urges and to get back to nature because I got so wrapped up in advancing my career in my 20's. Thanks for being a voice for our young men our future depends on it.

The Wooded Beardsman you're teaching fathers how to be fathers, men to be men. You're doing a great job! The thanks is all mine! I've felt alone in this area. My son is 5, I'm not with his mother anymore. (Long story) but teaching him the way of the woods has been very unpopular with my community and family. You're an inspiration, brother. I was the killer/head Skinner at a slaughterhouse for 2 years, so I watch your videos with some judgement, but you find a way that suits you! You get the meat! I'm rambling now, but just wanted to say, you're a great dad, keep the videos coming. Bless you in Jesus' Name!

Keep doing it with your son. He needs it. My son talks when we walk and we do big long walks all the time. If we're sitting, no words, but soon as we head out, his mind starts to open up. You get the same in the bush, just walking, exploring, throwing rocks in the creek or whatever. Boys need it.

I really liked this video. I loved what you were talking about at the end! I'm 16, and when I was 12 I was addicted to video games, then one day when I was 14, randomly I just thought "there is more to life" then I found what I truly loved, and I hope to grow in the knowledge of the wild, and I will WORK for it! I've been learning so much, and I have seen growth, but only when I get off my butt!

Sometimes I feel like I stumbled upon your channel for this exact reason. As the father of a 4 yr old, I'm now instilling in him some of the most important lessons he'll ever learn that will provide the foundation for him to succeed at every stage of his life. Just by your videos/chats, you're helping me do that. From one father to another, thank you.

You're welcome! The first 5 years are the most important. Make sure he turns out to be the kind of kid that adults don't mind having around. Then everyone will treat him right. Make him tough, but respectful, kind, but not a pushover. I think you're on the right track already.

It sure is great to be out with family and friends in the great outdoors on any given day , and as well to share that. AWESOME , and love the videos. Great stuff.

Ugh, that really sucks. I would never wish chronic pain on anyone, ever. I hope you find out something that helps you, I really do. My Mom and brother suffer from headaches and I used to get them every so often as a kid, now I rarely get any, so weird. I have given up gluten an alcohol and stay pretty clean and feel better, but not for headaches, more digestive issues that I had been dealing with since a teen. I'm fully cured now with some major doctoring of my diet. Good luck.

Your wife looks so happy. But you have to get her to touch a fish! Of course it was another great video. So nice to see you putting your son into the great outdoors still tweaks my funny bone when you say men's work and woman's work. Of course I'm an odd duck who hangs out with a quacked flock. But the ladies in my friend circle would surprise you with woods skills. Keep doing these video's. I love seeing them.

Us old gals anyway. Sad part is our entire society is being attacked by political correctness and sensitivity police. Can't show hunting or even preparing game for the stew pot anymore. Most youngsters have never been camping the old way. Now it's hot showers and 40 foot recreational vehicles with television and computers. What they are doing to our younger generation is a crime. They are losing the ability to survive without a supermarket and a debit card. Sorry about the rant.

When I look at my stats for the channel it reflects what you're saying. To be expected though, but young girls don't watch this, but my biggest female following is over 35, and it's not very big LOL. I think it tops out at around 10% above 35 years. So that tells you something, doesn't it? I think it's you girls looking for things your fathers used to do. But I could be wrong, maybe girls were just more outdoorsy, kind of like boys used to be too. Now boys are finding the channel and it's like hey, I should have been doing this and this looks like fun. But most actually haven't done much of this at all.

The Wooded Beardsman, since I was young I remember going fishing with my mom and dad. Sadly I lost my dad in 2009. I love to go fishing and never really went hunting or trapping. I’m 16 now and I still don’t have a father figure in my life. Me and my friend have planned on going into the woods and seeing how much we can really do. You have made me want to try what you do. I plan on seeing how far I can really go. I’ve always been locked in my house, I’ve never really had woods or anything to really go do. I live in a small town in the country side. Thank you for all your videos and for giving me the dedication to go out and do things with my life.

I hope you find someone that can help you figure out what being a good man means. It sounds like you got a good start, so now it's time to build some confidence in your Mom's eyes so she can trust you. Find some good buddies and start stretching those wings. At 16, you should have a good idea about who you want to become. Sorry to hear your loss, it's tough. Everyone needs Mom and Dad, they provide the needed balance in our lives.

Chris. Your content is amazing, to think that we as humans are so capable of surviving and thriving in the wilderness. To me it seems almost as though humans, particularly in the western world have forgotten all about nature. Thank you for showing us our true heritage and sharing what you know about life and this planet. The way we are treating mother earth with our big corporations and lots of pollution is mental to me and I think this kind of lifestyle really is what us humans and indeed the planet needs more of in the future. This video in particular really inspired me to go out and explore my area. Thank you again Chris This channel means alot to me.

I am graced with two boys, when they were growing up I spent time all my spare time with them out and about fishing shooting and with the dogs. These were all they past times I indulge in when I was growing up and sharing these times were brilliant. On leaving school both my boys decided to carry on with the outdoor activities and went to college to learn about gamekeeping and are now both qualified gamekeepers. I would like to believe I had an influence on their path and destination, but whatever the reason it's nice to spend time with them doing what we have always done since they were 5 and 8.

as a boy I read a book called my side of the mountain. since then I have had a desire to learn all that I can about survival, bushcraft, primitive skills etc... I really got into it in 2008 wile serving in the Marine Corps when I discovered Dave Canterburys videos. from there I have watched many different channels and been inspired to use these skills I have learned. I teach my nieces and nephews how to forge their own knives how to make fire with sticks and how to get safe drinking water. I am still learning this stuff myself but I find so much joy in teaching kids this stuff because my dad never taught me how to be a man he only taught me how to play the victim. I am proud to say that I am not a victim, I am a superhero! I hope to pass on useful and fun knowledge to the younger generations. didn't mean to write a novel lol. I love your Chanel brother, Keep it up!

I'm glad to hear you say this. Playing victim is a stupid strategy that might get you some points in some crowds, but not in life generally. You'll always be miserable because that's how you'll play the game. I'm glad you're going super hero, that's a great goal and way of looking at life.

well , pretty deep discussion for an ice fishing trip. . My kids are grown now , when they were little , I was working 12 hour shifts in a paper mill , it was a hard grind , but a man does what he has to do. there was always good food on the table. For years , I was very proud of that , it wasn't until they were grown that I realized that's what was expected of me anyway , they'd have rather had more ' Daddy ' time. I guess it's different with girls , but with my 3 girls , I felt like they'd rather spend time with their friends than with me , , and to be honest , I was tired , , so now that I'm in my 60's , I look back , don't have many regrets , but that's one of them.

Yeah, got to make them do the right thing, especially when they are young, since they don't know what's good for them. But balance is what we look for. Time with friends, time with family in a healthy mix, but we do notice when things aren't balanced and that's where regret comes from.

I've been watching your videos for a while and I wanted to let you know that they've had an enormous impact on me. I came across your youtube channel by accident and got hooked like an ant to honey. Although I don't hunt or fish, I've started spending more and more time outdoors on my own most times. It's been truly amazing getting in touch with nature, despite the fact that I live in a glorified desert. I've also started doing much better at university. For someone that got good grades, I've started acing my classes in my masters because of the time I spend outdoors. It's helped me with my education and my mental health. I've also reestablished my definitions of masculinity and boldness and other things. I'd moved on from the bad boy phase of my life a while back but now I'm more clear and focused on what I want in a partner. There's a pretty good chance you won't read this, given its a long message and I imagine you're busy, but I wanted to thank you for what you did and I hope you continue making the videos. So far I have been able to read every comment, but this is slipping away slowly. What you shared is beautiful and makes me very happy to hear. I know you are on the right track. All you need to do is put one foot in front of the other, every day, and soon you'll be exactly where you want to be. Some days will be harder than others, and you may want to give up, but keep pressing. It's all we can do, all of us. Good luck!

Your channel is the first, and at this time, the only channel I am subscribed to. I've been screwing around on KZbin, almost as long as there has been a KZbin. AGAIN, first and only subscription. Your content, (and probably the climate), reminds me so much of growing up in Alaska. Now that I have been living in "the lower 48", for abour 18 years, I have realized something has been missing. And it ain't the frostbite. Maybe It's dodging moose on skis, maybe It's sharing the woods with the grizzled brown ones, or maybe I just miss the woods I grew up in, and eating fresh Grouse and Ptarmigen that I harvested myself, or got with my dad. Since I have lived in southern Oregon, I have only been fishing three times, and I have hunted like Elmer Fudd. I feel like some flat-lander that never spent a day in the woods. Thow filling my tags hasn't panned out the way I would like, I have been getting closer to bears, cougar, wolves, and deer than ever before. I have gained small successes as a hunter, even in absence of total success. Always inspiring, and always genuine, always a pleasure to watch, thank you.

I am U.S Army veteran, I have decided that I am going to be making a KZbin channel of my own, of me getting back to nature, and living that way of life again. Wooded Beardsman, This video is one of your best yet. As an avid hunter and just plain outdoors person I am always trying to get the children in my family to go outside and learn something. My Nephews are all about the outdoors. hey love to hunt, fish and cam with their uncle. most of the other kids are a breed all to themselves. When I was a child my sister and I grew up in the swamps of Florida. We didn't have computers or cell phones back then but even if we did I am sure we would not have utilized them. I was in law enforcement for close to 10 years here in Missouri where I live. I am now a bondsman and bail recovery agent. (bounty hunter). I have seen things in my career choice that make me ill, things you cant unsee. A lot of the parents in todays world let their kids run all over the place never knowing where they are or who they are with. They are to busy doing drugs to care. It makes me glad to see guys like you and Jeremy out there making these videos. My nephews and I love and watch al of the videos we can from you and one world crafter. we enjoy them and try to get others to watch them. we need more men out there with the clean entertainment and learning that you provide. I thank you for what you do. Aaron

Hey ya WB! Chris, awesome video, awesome heartfelt talk! U inspire many, young, old, male and female. Many of us has, those of us that r older has for along want/wanted to to live this life, know these skills u show us, those of us who really want learn these skills come to u. I am 57 now, as a child I tasted this and that plant, shot a black bird wondering if I could cook it, but the fear of getting n trouble, i would have learned more then if we had cell phones that we do today. The young people (or older) that come to u today may not have a mentor n their life to teach them, so we come to u, u r that mentor we need n our life, I cannot speak others, but I can pretty much bet that the appreciate u as much as I, I learn a lot from u, if I don’t understand something, I ask (like y u soaked a beaver carcass n the lake, I don’t know y yet) anyway, u r the real deal WB, we all know that, those that dog u r just jealous, u r wonderful n my eyes and many others, u r greatly appreciated, these video’s take x which u make for us to lear n. Now at the end of your talk from what u read caused u to shed some tears, u apologized, I see no shame (yes, Back n the day men were not allowed to cry, and to me that is bs) which blows my mind that it was ok for men to show love but not pain, to shed tears does not make u less of a man.

Thanks Joy. As per the beaver..that was more to just keep it clean while processing if that's what you mean. If I cut on the ground, stick and such would stick to it. Other than that, it keeps flies off, and also keeps it cooler since the water temp is spring cold...so it keeps better.

This talk struck a nerve with me man. I love it. I am in a wheelchair and have had chronic health problems for years and I let myself go to 420 pounds and when I realized I was over letting my life pass me by, I decided to stop letting my health control me. I just turned 30, and I have lost 30 pounds, and in two days it will be a year since I drank a soda etc (I was up to 6 a day and stopped cold turkey) and I have changed my diet to no more than 1400 calories (per my doctor so I make sure I'm still getting enough to keep my health and nutrients up) and only eating meat I've killed or fish I've caught. It's giving me the excuse I need to go out and "grocery shop like a man" lol. I want to hunt and fish every state and a few countries. I went to Oregon for my uncle's funeral and ended up with sores on my foot (from pressure) and the old me would have stayed in bed with it up, and let myself get depressed, but I just spent 3 days of hard huntin for coyotes and while I didn't even see one it was totally worth it. I am taking a few days to rest my foot and keep it up because Its infected but I'm on antibiotics so soon as the swelling goes down I am going back out. (ESPECIALLY because there's a local rancher who lost 3 calves to coyotes the other night so I'm targeting those). My mom who is really cautious said I shouldn't go this last weekend but I told her, I have to go and live my life. I can rest after I'm done hunting, BUT if it gets so bad that going hunting or fishing kills me, then it was my time because if I can't live how I want I am not alive. Pulse or no pulse. I may have ended up with an infection but I caught it early and I had 3 days of great hunting with close buddies and if i have to take a day or 2 on my bed with my foot up so be it.

Recently got out of a 2 year relationship with the girl I loved very much, she needed space. I take your advice on being yourself and not chasing women as much as I chased for her and seeked for her attention. I will do what I do best like working on vehicles, being active outside, camping out, grilling for my family and having a good time with my friends and family, I’m 19 and I know now that my quality’s and what I have to offer for a women will one day attract someone special for me. Thank you for the great outdoors content and for your opinion on boys and how us boys should be.

I mention to some of the YT BBQ people when they slap a steak on their barbie. Consider using a metal plate, with a handle, that has pin nails on it (like a bear board, or cotton carding paddles - less tines than the photo). Have 2, and marinate the meat and spice rub on the meat, then push both plates onto the steak sides. Cook the steak on the BBQ (and continue to turn over the metal plates for even cooking). Makes for perfectly cooked seared surface, juices caramelize (bark) on the meat and plate, and the tines perfectly pass heat into the meat for less cooking time, and great cooking. The same would be great for doing this for fish over the coals (especially pike and their Y bones). When the plate is removed, you can slide one plate from the other plate. The meat on one side of the fish (and spine/bones) will pull away from the other plate of meat and bones. And you can have totally near-bone-free fish eating. And pull the bones from the other side of the fish and you have two fish sides on the hot metal plates (and handle) to eat with (of course a fork) pulling the fish off the tines, with all of the fish juices caramelized on the skin. www.pacificwoolandfiber.com/new%20images/accessories/John%20Day%20Cotton%20Medium%20B.jpg
