I FISH and FORAGE for FOOD! Nature provides a complete meal including natural spring fed brook trout, wild leeks, or ramps, marsh marigold, and stinging nettle. I will use primitive stone tools to prepare the fish for eating in the forest.
Vision Quest: / @wildernessquestoutdoors
Facebook: / chris.leclair.35
Website: thewoodedbeards...
I cook the fresh wild trout over the fire using only a stick and stuff the cavity with wild edibles including stinging nettle, marsh marigold and wild leeks for a 100% foraged meal.
Stinging nettle is common to creek beds are is marsh marigold. Wild leeks are commonly found in hardwoods, but each wild edible is a spring harvest.
To prepare the trout, I will only remove the insides rather than cut all the way up in order to leave a pocket for nature's bounty.
The best kind of primitive cooking, is the simplest, just a stick and you can call it primitive technology. The trick to cooking over an open fire is to get a big fire and let it burn down to coals before gently smoking the fish.

I’ve been watching your videos for a little over a week now, and I’m trying to watch them all as I am able. I have a lot of respect for you for the things you do and for the time you take to teach us. I love your stance on life and your logic behind everything. Having said all of that, this is one of the best videos you’ve done (nothing will ever beat the series of you camping on frozen Pond Lake or the 3 hour video of when you guys paddled up it) because it is so apparent that you took a lot more time to explain things that you’ve done in many videos but kind of just skimmed past. For example: the stingers on the nettle. You’ve eaten it so many times, but I believe this is the first time you took time to address that they still sting you personally when you pick them and that the stingers fall off after cooking. I kind of figured all of that was true, but it needs to be said and heard. Thanks for all that you do. I can’t wait to start making my own fire from a bow drill as soon as I get a free moment.

Yeah, you're right. I need to think about this from someone seeing it for the first time, and I often don't. But when I do thinks once or twice, I remember that it's new for people. I'll keep doing more like this.

So a few months ago I got into bushcraft and survival outdoors, but rewind i grew up in the city and followed the wrong path with the wrong people so the next 10 to 15 years i was in and out of jail or on the run. Almost ending up in prison, I needed a change and then my step father passed, he was into the outdoors big time. This pushed me to go out to the woods and see what I could do. I started watching your channel, Joe Robinet and many more. So I started my life changing path and started a youtube channel. It has had a huge positive impact in my life, I just had a daughter i'm in college and my channels doing good, So what i'm getting to is that you have helped me transform my thoughts and actions, So thank you for all you have done without knowing it, I have seen and been thru things people 3 times my age, so to get out and find inner peace has helped me as a person, your a great guy and thanks again, stop by my channel and maybe say Hi, or something it would mean a lot, take care my friend. P.S In my latest tag video I tried making some of the tools you have been using, but I lack flint here.

Try my John-pole. Never carry a solid, break-down, or tenkara pole again. Have a small carry box with reel, fishing pole eyes, and velcro straps. Go out into the bush, and cut a long branch to length for the fishing pole. Cut the tip and slice "X" toothpicks into the tip. Put the eyetip onto the "X" toothpicks, and velcro strap the toothpicks in place, holding the eye tip tight. Slightly notch and place the other fish eyes onto the pole length and velcro strap tight. (You will have previously sliced a small cut into the velcro strap to push the fish eye through and superglue or melt the slit edges). Carve out a notch on the bottom of the limb, place the reel plate into the notch, and velcro strap in place. String up the fishing line, lure, and bait. Viola !!! A wilderness fishing pole w/o grabbing all the branches, snapping your pole, etc. Have a large fishing set (fishing pole eyes) for the larger salmon, muskie, pickerel, ... and a smaller fishing pole kit for trouth/bass/pike/walleye. When done fishing, you can place the fish onto the limb, and have a hobo fish-carrying pole. Place the fish over the fire, skewered on the limb. Eat the fish, clean up the fire and eating area, and leave (recycle) the tree limb at the location. All green, tidy, and pro-recycling. Pack up your small 3x3x3 fishing kit into its container and return it to your ruck.

I clicked this forgetting I already watched it once and I've got an observation. Your best work is the Wilderness living Challenge Season 2 (the whole damn Season, no joke I can rewatch that whole thing twice a year), not because of the end goal, but because of how creative you get in sourcing out different edibles and how those edibles are prepared, I find that variety between episodes brings out a sense of complexity and adventure. The Stone knife and that fold out Saw are good but the Grohmann Trout and Bird is particularly Iconic, be sure to use that too. Cooking is also an important part of what you do. I recently watched Studio Ghibli's cartoon 'Kiki's delivery service and was enthralled by the sight of a Hadoc Pot Pie (or something like that), It sounds delicious. And adding such creative dishes to your menu and sharing your experiences with them should make for better episodes. P.S. Hope you keep a big stock of Beaver whenever you can get it. Good for the environment. Perhapse people should call it River Pork or something, "COME N GET YER RIVER PORK, SWEET N JUICY HOG-ON-THE-WATER!" People 'd probably eat Beaver more often then.

When I was around 10, I live in the U.S. and I went to a Native American reservation as where me and my family live, have co-existed with the Native American Indians and an elder chief made a very very sharp arrowhead that was shiny and black, which I think is Obsidian? It was the size of about half a foot long, by 3 inches wide. He also made another one that a shiny rusty brown color that was very sharp as well, I don’t recall the stones name, it was even bigger about 7-8 inches long by 4 inches wide. He gave them to my family. I never understood how precious they were until I got older, and after watching your videos I wanted to turn them into knives but I can no longer find them, maybe in a storage container somewhere.
@Wildernessquestoutdoors
@Wildernessquestoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Cody Columbia the rust color is probably a type of obsidian as well. Obsidian is very sharp but also very delicate. If you try to use the longer ones as knives, be careful with pressure, they break. If you want sturdy knives use chert/flint!
