I was fishing for perch at Del Ray just last week. The surf was MUCH higher, and I didn't have waders so I couldn't get my casts too far out. I came up busted, but had a great time.

Thank you PK , I agree with you , incoming HIGHTIDES but at times for old guys like us a bit difficult to get out early morning good Video again you are awesome. Last 2 months tried Cape Lookout skunked, Rockaway beach near Barview and then Seaside Avenue U, not much luck, at seaside I caught a Crab and a few tiny something like catfish do not know what they are called Was thinking of trying the beach by Fort Stevens, Then in late October early November weather permitting may head out to Newport and the South Beach Appreciate

PK: Make a fish bag and wear it during fishing/wading to maximize your time having your hooks/ bait in the water. These fish move around and the quicker you can unhook your catches and get your rig back into the perch school the more chances you can enjoy hooking them.

Hey PK, I'm trying to figure out how to find better spots for bigger fish. I've been going to Del Rey beach hours before high tide. I use the hi-lo rig + gulp sandworms, and caught about 20-25 fish. Problem is... 1. Surf perch are no bigger than the palm of my hand (only kept 8 small males) 2. Catching unwanted and aggressive 2 inch cabezon 3. Other tiny fish I'm not interested in eating. E.g. Starry flounder. 4. Beach was entirely flat at low tide and sand crabs were scarce. I'd love to enter a tournament sometime but none of my catches compare to yours. It's more like catch and snack surf perch for me. Any tips would be great!
@oregonlife4 жыл бұрын
That's the million dollar question, where to catch bigger fish. There's no specific best answer, but I think the key is to try different beaches, and different baits. Live baits like sand shrimp do really well, and tend to catch the bigger fish. Maybe use a bigger hook like a #2, or #1 to keep the little guys off. Good luck.

PK; another great video. Showing how catching surf perch can be tough even for one of the best fishing next to others who are a little more successful. 50 yards farther down the surf can mean the difference in great fishing and fair fishing. I was there in Seaside for my rotations. The beaches there are REALLY FLAT! A wader is a must. Also, I never had good luck there, it was hard and most of the fish there are tiny. I had to launch a 12 foot pole as far as I could to catch my 13 in red tail. But, I never had much luck there on those beaches. I guess I should've tried clams.
