I really love the way you teach these permaculture principles and get us to look at the design system on many levels. I'm only in the beginner stages of gardening, but the other levels or aspects are totally applicable to anyone, anywhere! One of my fave ways to catch and store is to reuse/repurpose/upcycle items for functional and artistic purposes. On the self-care level, I quit my part-time teaching job after this last season and also invested considerable time/energy/money into physiotherapy to recover from years of back pain and more recently sciatica. My "yield" has been more time (and better quality time) with my two little ones and husband, better care for my home, and growing capacity to care for others in my family/community. I also hope to use my future energy for one more pregnancy, homeschooling, and expanding my garden this coming year 😜

You have a true gift! I listen to many many many podcasts and YT videos and your voice, inflection, information and way of presenting information is calming, inspiring, and just spot on ! You don’t beat around the Bush and you give so much information and detail! My favorite! Thanks for all your hard work!

So important to see ourselves as an energy resource. I’m in touch with many other families raiding children with FASD, and the spoon principle ( you ( and our children) have a finite amount of energy so use on priorities) the “empty cup” scenario and self care are constant themes in our threads. Sometimes it’s emotional, sometimes physical- so important to see ourselves holistically :-) Bless you for these insights into wider permaculture principles..

Good video with some great examples. I often find myself thinking, 'Catch and store resources' rather than 'energy'. For example, I collect as many full leaf bags as I can every fall, but I have trouble thinking of leaves as a form of energy. I suppose the case can be made that once the leaves have composted, their nutrients will become a source of energy for my plantings, but for me that seems like a bit of a stretch. But there's no doubt that the leaves are a very valuable resource in the garden. Same for the bags they come in, which I save and use for sheet mulching under the woodchips in my paths. I also have to say that I admire your energy and dedication to so many pursuits, especially caring for your dad. I was in that same situation a few years ago, and I know how daunting it can be.

Have you heard of Terra Preta and using bio char in your soil? It would be great to hear your thoughts on this amendment : )

Don't worry about dropping a ball, it will bounce back and you can get to it on the rebound.t. That's why we call them balls, not crystal china, which does not bounce as well. 😀

@@ParkrosePermaculture I've heard good things about the expansion but haven't played it yet. Side note, what were the first games you played with your kids when they were little? I've got an almost four year old I want to get hooked on tabletop.

@@jamiebaker6516 I have a personal policy that I only play games I like (i.e. no candyland) 😅 So we often just simplify games that my husband and I enjoy. For example we'll play Carcassonne and play with only cities and roads (no fields), or Sleeping Queens without the addition rules. Then as they gain competence you can slowly increase to the full rules.
