Nice and understated insight, surely tactics can play a major part in the quest for the elusive and wary old fish. I'm more and more convinced about the importance of bait quality, although some credit should also be given to artificial bait such as a single grain of corn on the side of a heavily baited area. I noticed that such tactics might account for unexpected encounters with the more suspicious carp. Thank you for your interesting examples. Bless+tight lines from Italy!
