Citrus are very hungry trees. Their main feeding roots are very shallow around the the base of the tree. Give then lots of seaweed feed and mulch around the base out passed the foliage edge. Mulch must be at least 50mm thick. Then use a good citrus slow release fertiliser every 6 weeks or so.

Yellow limes are in fact ripe limes. Green limes are harder, easier to pick and transport. Personally I let all our limes ripen on the tree, they are juicer and less acidic. If they aren't getting larger, it just means the tree isn't super happy about life or has too many fruits/not enough energy to grow them large.

Looked very tasty, mmm my family loves fish. Especially when I smoke the trout... I would love to try the sea fishing, it's a different game for the same player. We around this neck of the woods are fresh water species fisherman, only because we live around fresh water lol. If I lived around the ocean I would fish for sea creatures. You are a great teacher with the limited-time that you have. I/we can tell you are obviously an experienced fisherman, and I have learnt a lot of knowledge from your mouth and the way you explain the steps you are taking. I can understand your language and I appreciate you for that.
@doraexplora90462 жыл бұрын
Tell you the truth, I've eaten a fair bit of both salt and fresh water fish but our family much prefers the taste and variety of salt water fish. Boar Fish (Sydney region) is a species I came across recently and it is amazing on the BBQ.
@shawnfarrell97722 жыл бұрын
@@doraexplora9046 there is definitely alot more species in the oceans. I feel like I prefer ocean seafood myself, but still love to eat fish both fresh/ocean. If i had to make a choice it would be for sure ocean species due to the fact there are more species to fish for and eat..

The Japanese love this fish, I told my wife hwo is Japanese that in Australia we use it mainly for live bait....I got a cold stare 🤣 We ate this growing up in PNG as well. Grill over the fire till nice and crispy, eat the whole thing head and all. The bones are tiny and you just munch right through them.

Always need to make sure your lime tree isn't surrounded by other plants that will use a bunch of nutrients around it, plenty of water, lots of direct sunlight, and if there are a ton of small limes, trim the tree correctly and big limes will grow

I can relate to this, as a boat fisherman of 40 years I've taken a lot of people fishing and couldn't get them hooked up even though we were using the same baits, etc. I always just handed off whatever rod got hit and let them reel it in but it's not quite the same. But you made the most of it cooking up those slimeys, they look very tasty. Fish don't have to be big to taste good. Great video as always, thanks and take care out there Rod.

great vid as usual mate. If you want a little hack with the smoker I put a layer of alfoil down and then put the sawdust on it. This catches all the juices and when you are done it lifts out and straight in the bin no cleanup.

I dunno what your handyman skill is like, but have a look at the woodgas stove, the key factor is getting the airflow right. A woodgas stove with a standard bakebean tin size combustion chamber will easily burn for more than half an hour when packed tight with small sticks. Just use a little kindling to get it started.

@TheBeaker592 жыл бұрын
Get all the boys to wee under the Lime tree regularly. Another thing citrus like is Iron rust so if someone is grinding mild steel rust get some of the sweepings. You will get more and bigger fruit. In NZ we get those slimey Macks too and I love them I have taken out a few Brits on my boat they reckon they are identical to look at and eat as the ones back in England so try some of those recipes out.
@Jake-ky9ed2 жыл бұрын
Reminds me of a smoked mackerel they have in Russia. Funny how fishing goes sometimes but someone had a good thought as how humans we are spoiled to the more fancy fish or whatever but in this case fish, like we gotta have the tuna or mackerel and look down our noses at others that are pretty dang good in their own right. Cheers man, stay after it we are in the end game of winter here fishing juuuuuusssssttttt gonna start turning on in the ocean.
@nemanjanemanjaa45512 жыл бұрын
Do you apply some filter to your videos while editing them? They always have distinct beautiful colors to them. Also could you make a smaller video or put it as part of another long one the part where you kill the fish and to teach us how to gut it spet by step? We learned so much from you, how to prepare and cook many different types of fish but you always skip the cleaning part, which I bet many of us would like to see. Can't wait for more camping and sailing videos 😃

Very interesting video thanks. Your Slimies look a lot like the Mackerel that we catch up North. One of the best eating fish you can get in my opinion. Look up a recipe for soused mackerel. OMG. You're killing me, Rod! How long is the line to eat with You? I have never understood why mackerel bait BBQs were not more prevalent. I'll trade You a flyfishing trout catch & cook on my home waters in the Idaho wilderness. . . . . One safety issue, I thot I saw You using Your lighter to move the burning fuel. Welders have died when their butane lighter ignites and explodes in their shirt pockets -- TNT equiv. But overall, this one is a mouth-watering vid.
