If only the dabs were bigger. Maybe you could get Brylcream to sponsor you, their old slogan was "A little dab will do you". Great vid ,as ever, keep them coming.

Thanks Rob - one or two dabs are in size, but there are a lot of small ones.

Hi Mick. Cracking video. Pity there weren't a few more, and sizeable, dabs taken but that said I would have been more than happy had it been me fishing. Although it makes fishing easier, it's sad to see Dungeness so devoid of anglers. A sign of the times I suppose. And you're correct...walking the Boards is preferable to carrying a lot of gear across the pebbles! Keep safe and keep healthy. Cheers. Ken.

Many thanks Ken - yes not many fishing there - it'll take some sunny warm weather and / or the codling to return for that.

Thanks Stephen - I'm feeling my age already and do get 'fishing injuries'. Currently nursing a swollen hand after a course fishing match a couple of weeks back!

Rod I use to love to fish near were you are when I was younger but I couldn't walk fifty feet on that shingle now.But I do have fond memories of catching fish all along that beach.😢

Nice one - the boards help a lot getting near to the waters edge. I'm not fond of trudging over shingle myself!

It saddens me when I think back even a few years and you would be hard pushed to get a spot on the beach here... but still enjoyable... Just incase it's of any interest the Ray's have arrived at deal in good numbers... herring top bait as is the normal in this area, however fresh herring is hard to come by this year, they never really showed.. Thank you as always for the time and effort you put in..well done.

Yes - its the lack of codling that keeps anglers away from Dungie now. Thanks for watching again and your update on Deal.

Thanks Rod .I agree with you about the boards i have had my biggest Dab catches there in the past .Went to Dungie after the storm at the weekend picked up a bucket full of bait lug queen cockle razor clam and 16 scollops was hoping to fish this week but ended up in hospital for an emergency hernia op. No fishing for a while so keep the videos coming please.

Sorry to hear that Gary - I've been out of action for a couple of weeks myself, but have videos lined up. Get well soon.

Was down there yesterday (Feb 23rd) fishing at the boats. Plenty action right from low-tide till two hours past high. Countless dogs, 3 dabs, 3 whiting and a couple of rockling. All on lug and squid. Ended up abandoning second rod as it was too hectic at times. I do like fishing at Dungeness. Thank you for all your informative videos!

@@robsmith7391 Thanks mate. I'd be keen on bagging a couple of big plaice but busy next week unfortunately. What has been caught your way?

@@londonviking3801 After blanking on the beach, Paul gave us his surplus bait. Martin &I fished the East arm on the Monday. Mart had a 42cm bass first cast and it was a fish a chuck after that. I think we ended with the bass, 12 Whiting, 2 dogs,6 plaice,a rockling and a 3ft conger ! Mart had another good session on Wed. Lots of thornbacks being caught on Eastbourne beaches.

After pumping my lug at dymchurch on Tuesday I fished at the east lookout Hythe ranges ,fished big pennels but alas only wighting and a dog fish to end that session .on giving the rest of my lug away to a couple of Anglers who only had fish baits they told me they were still getting rays at Hythe on low tide.tight lines and great video thanks.

Very useful information and another well put together film. When tipping with sprat, what's your preferred way of hooking? I see you cut them into small sections but it's quite a soft bait. I was wondering how you got it to survive the cast.
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Thanks - I tend to cut small triangular pieces and put the point of the hook where the skin folds over. If they keep falling off then I'll whip some on with elastic.

Hi Mick, As you are what i call the local tendering specialist i wonder if you would be so kind and help me with bait choice and rigs to use on Saturday at Holland on Sea. The weather has changed a bit since your last post on Holland on Sea. It would be great to get your feedback please. Best Nigel
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Hi Nigel - its coming up to what used to be the spring run period in this area, so peeler crab will start to come in to play, if you can get it. Bluey, squid and herring on their own or as wraps give a chance of rays at very long range. If you just want to catch anything, then small ragworm or blowlug on clip-down or boom rigs will catch. For some reason, I now seem to do better using rag throughout the year.
@nigelfelstead12772 жыл бұрын
Hi Mick, That information is a great help. I will probably use a 3 hook scratching rig on one rod then on the other rod i will use a 2 up 1 down clip down rig with a larger hook on the bottom with fish bait as i can cast a comfortable distance. Hopefully enough for a Ray. Thank you again for taking the time to get back to me. Best Nigel
