Hi Rod great video I grew up fishing shore Road flounders where plentiful we would think catching 10 a session was a bad days fishing until the drag netters arrived now you will be lucky to catch 3 a year anywhere in the solent such a shame to see the decrease in flounder here any way great channel

Hi Mick, Great perseverance to finally get your target fish. I did get to fish Deal pier on Wednesday 29th it was a bit windy and had a little rain up till about 12 then it was quite pleasant to fish. I didn’t fish off the lower deck this time i chose to fish the arm ( 4th shelter ) it was not as productive as 2 weeks prior but i still managed to land over 30 fish. It did start quietly then as soon as it started to get dusk the whiting were prolific. The last 1.5hrs of my session i landed 20 fish including 4 dabs & a nice pouting. All fish were taken on lug tipped with a small piece of squid. The whole pier was really busy with people fishing and to my surprise there were people still fishing right up till the pier closes at 6pm. £3.10 per rod is a very fair price and you can park in the seafront car park for just over £7.80 all day and the tackle shop is at the start of the pier and you can pre order bait for collection. Black & Yellow Tail Lug ( Channel Angling ) There was one skate caught 4lb Thornback caught on whole squid. Just want to say thank you for another post looking forward to more in the new year. Take care and tight lines Nigel

Those flounders Mick. There not so prolific as they used to be .I fish a lot at Westcliff Bastille evenings. With thre hook snoods with white plastic spoons .remember those things. And you would retrieve three fish every cast .those were the days . Now it a target species to catch one . Best Wishes .and keep up the good work 👍👍👍

You're right there Stephen - when I first moved to Southend you could catch 30 flounders a session (tiny / leaf sized though), now they are a notable catch. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Love all of your vids. I may have to make the 300 mile trip to the Thames area. So different from anywhere I fish oop north lol. Really appreciate you making and sharing your vids. The voice over is excellent. Do you ever talk to the camera or even yourself when you are fishing? 😁
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for that Paul - the Thames has its moments, but can be difficult as well. I opted for voice-overs over talking to the camera, as I think it distracts from the fishing - moving the cameras about reduces time spent concentrating on catching as it is! Each to their own - there are plenty of good videos with 'talking heads' - I don't think I'd do a good job copying that approach!

@@rodsangleuk6283 Thank you for replying. I never thought about fishing the Thames estuary before watching your vids. Essex and Kent have so many marks. You are spoilt for choice :-). Your voice overs are excellent. I prefer them. Thank you Rod

Hi Mick. Talk about fishing "on the edge"! I was sure the sea was going to come over the top of the bank and soak your gear. Glad it didn't. Two difficult sessions but you persevered and didn't blank. That flounder was a nice size. What's the difference in height between top of the tide and bottom of the tide where you were fishing? Keep safe and keep healthy. Cheers. Ken
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Yes Ken - saltmarshes can be risky on bigger tides and gear can sometimes get wet at high tide and from the wake of passing boats. Thankfully it doesn't happen to me too often. Fishing is sometimes about avoiding a blank; but I still find that its worthwhile if the target eventually gets caught. The tide goes out quite a distance at a number of Southampton Water venues and I fished Shore Road until the mud appeared - you can get a flounder right at the end of a session, when there is very little water left within casting distance. Not sure about the actual tidal range. Thanks for watching and commenting again.

Can u show us a close up of the typical bites that you strike ? What's the difference between flatfish and bass\whiting and do you use a shock leader with braid?
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nigel - my White Horses...mixed bag video shows how I normally tie a shock leader to braid - I don't tend to use complicated knots, just a double uni (I think that what its called). If I'm getting plenty of bites I try to film one or two close up to show what they are like; but when one comes out of the blue when nothing is happening, its difficult to be poised to record it and more than likely I'd miss it, both in terms of capturing it on film and then actually hitting it! My camera wasn't recording at the time I got the bite from the flounder and I was lucky to be able to position and switch it on and record any of its capture. A lot of the fish I catch don't get recorded for one reason or other (often camera malfunctions) and I also lose quite a lot trying to record! Thanks for watching.

Love your content is always a pleasure to watch good sir. If you plan a trip to river itchen çhesil Bay please let me put you in the right place as the ground is really spoiled and tanted from the water treatment place in woolston on a bad day your see baby wipes and excrement this has happened due do the way the river flows and chucks everything out at chesil Bay including litter I only found where the flounder was due to a seal a while back working the same mark for over a hour upon inspection the ground is different sandy texture with shells and lugworm casts present . I've put a lot of hours into the river itchen and it's been great I have a couple of recent posts of flounder if you'd like to look. The mark for this spot has parking close by short casts and solid ground. If you like to know more I can talk over the phone .... take care Jason

Many thanks for that - I've still plenty of venues in the Southampton Water system still to cover, and will get round to the Itchen and other areas sooner or later. Thanks for your contribution.

happy new year . a question ?? is it short or long snoods for flatties ? i can never remember . great uploads
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Happy new year to you too! Thanks - a very good question - I prefer short snoods, especially for soles and plaice and where the tidal pull is hard. In Southampton Water and some other venues, however, long snoods seem better for flounders - I suppose time on a venue makes a difference. The more you fish a particular venue, the more you'll find about about it.
