Hi Mick. Sorry for the long silence...went on a backpacking trip to Scotland followed by a family holiday in North Devon. Then, sadly and unexpectantly, a close family member passed away. A good session and a great video. I do enjoy your rig making sessions...you make everything so clear and easy to understand. Cheers and take care. Ken

That was a really nice ray. Also enjoyed watching the instructional element of the video for that rig, will have to give it a try soon. :)

Bang on as always 👏 👌 I really need to get to Clacton area soon and give it a go

Many thanks - yes, although Clacton can be hard going at times, it is always worth a try, with the chance of decent fish showing.

Awesome again been very cold here last 2 weeks now raining spent last Saturday with granddaughter making beach & boat rigs she has come up with some interesting rigs we use green tubing. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick

Thanks Nick - hope your rigs work well. I like to incorporate luminous tubing - may act as an attractant in coloured water and darkness.

Another brilliant video, interesting, informative and a joy to watch. Great to see your approach to rig making and nice to see the Trident Tackle rig components in use too. Tight lines.

Your methodical approach makes all the difference between success and a blank (mostly) ! Can you show a tutorial on what bites =what fish and what crab activity looks like?
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nigel. Yes - a good idea in theory! Problem is that if I'm only getting the odd bite / indication and stop to film it, I'm likely to miss the chance of hooking the fish! I fish braid most of the time, so see indications that may not register when using mono reel line, so I generally strike in to them. On the odd occasion when getting plenty of bites, I'll risk it and try to film a few bites. With mono a lot of the time the fish has already hooked itself when you see the bite (hence a lot of flatfish get deep hooked) and if they are finicky you may not see any bites at all and possibly blank, even though a fish may have taken your bait.

Me and mate are going up to sizewell next to the power station on Wednesday night. Hopefully will be good we are fishing larger baits as it's not that deep and is full of bass so trying to pick up the larger ones.

Hope your trip goes well. I haven't fished there for a while, but it used to be a favourite venue of mine for soles in summer and dabs in winter.

@@rodsangleuk6283 Just an update on our trip. We didn't go to sizewell we went to old felixstowe and had a good session a few small skate but the best was my 9lb bass. I used squid strips and frozen black lug

Great session sir - nice and quiet on the beach. Great rig lesson too. Do you get all your rig components from one supplier or shop around? There are soooo many types of components.
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Yes, I buy a huge range of rig components online and in various shops. Apart from the beads and swivel, the components of the Up and Over rig made here are supplied by Trident Tackle.

Good to see you getting a few nice fish, and a great rig tutorial. You used different coloured clips at either end of the rig, are they different sizes or just different colours? I put a small bead between the spring and crimp, to prevent the spring slipping over the crimp. Looking forward to the next adventure.
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob - good tip about using a small bead between crimp and spring. The termalinks are the same size, I just bought them in different colours, so just tend to use black ones to attach to the swivel at the end of my shockleaders.

I have stopped using crimp as stop knot for all my rigs long time ago, I found it was not flexible, once you fixed it in then that was it, at some point if your hook line damaged and you need to replace then it is hard to get the same length of the hook. I find using silicone tube from Gemini or any other supplier and/or even a plastic tube at home would do the job well and incredibly strong, if I need to adjust the length at some point I could easily move the knots to where I wanted. And another important point is I can reuse the whole rig for something else and I can easily change a different hook line without worrying of trying to get the exact measurement.This is just a personal preference.

I stopped using crimps too, theres nothing wrong with them but they didn't really fit with my fishing. I use a pulley a lot of the time now and find it so quick to tie and it covers 80% of my fishing. One thing i do a lot when making rigs is to get everything in place on the body, attach the lead and hang the rig from the top swivel on a small tack in a wall or doorframe then everything is much easier to measure out and tie to correct lengths.
@rodsangleuk62832 жыл бұрын
Good points raised. I use crimps for a few of my rigs, but not many.
@billybass41892 жыл бұрын
@@rodsangleuk6283 yea as i said theres nothing wrong with them, i used to make rigs with them and gemini springs etc but i seem to get equally good hook ups with the pulley clipped down and it's easier to tie on the beach which is a major plus.
@mvatoiband2 жыл бұрын
@@rodsangleuk6283 I learnt from the clip below, since then I stop using crimp. One silicone stop knot is not strong enough but when you put 2 together it is a different game, it is very strong considering I normally cast at least 80m. The beauty about this is after a few casts your mono line seems to stretch a bit so you can move the stop knots to different position to keep it tight again. And I stop using the spring as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqLOdoiJoceEbNE
