I was out yesterday with my grandson at Alma and that wind was brutal. We caught like 8 or 9 perch and called it a day. We were last ones leaving the landing but we were definitely cold. Thanks for sharing the knowledge once again. Always love your videos. So informative.

Way to tough our those brutal conditions. I fished for a bit from shore and froze. I lasted about 30 minutes.

I took a hike along some pool 13 backwaters this afternoon and the shallow northeast corners are full of pike. I only had a green spinnerbait with me, but I managed to entice a few fish.

I've never caught a fish using those blade baits. We had a rack of them in our shop (Heddon brand) but I don't remember ever actually selling one. They catch sea trout in North Carolina (and probably everywhere else) with the same technique you were showing with the fluke soft bait.
@AnglerX9 ай бұрын
I was always of the belief that they were just for snagging fish until recently. I'm using them more and more and finding that fish will bite them very aggressively. Blade baits put out a ton of vibration and get the reaction strikes from fish.

Enjoyed your video! I used to fish the Mississippi a lot and really like it. Only get over there a few times a year now. Get my fair share in other places. Way to grind it out in the cold! Incredible feeling to be out on popular waters all by yourself catching fish and enjoying the beauty of the river! Thanks for your videos and insights!

Love the honesty. I've fishing with DNR officials and they still keep fish that trapped the jig to the bottom or fin hooked.
@edo5229 ай бұрын
I agree, but I think it's a slippery area. The book says: What fishing methods are illegal? Taking fish by hand (noodling) or snagging. Imo, these are intentional acts. You throw jig and plastic, 5 intentions are not to snag. Those snags are unintentional. BUT, I also don't want to have to explain how my opinion is better than the conservation officer's opinion; to the judge...
@edo5229 ай бұрын
I have also seen people intentionally snagging buffalo with bare hooks. Folks got tickets. The CO told them if they wanted to not get a ticket, put some bait in the hook. Again, imo, that is the CO admission that unintentionally snagged fish can be kept. Might be a different story if they were snagging walleye.
@JNBGUIDESERVICE9 ай бұрын
What size flukes do you use?
@AnglerX9 ай бұрын
I've talked with a local game warden about this very topic. The hook has to be inside the mouth and not on the outside to be a legal catch. There are many fish kept that are illegally hooked but we all need to interpret the laws as best we can while on the water.

What depth do you focus on down below the damn in middle on the river

Great Fish Lance! What depth water do you catchem in during the day? Normally I fish deep with heavy jigs. You are using much smaller jigs than I do. Thanks
@AnglerX9 ай бұрын
I have been finding fish in 8-12 fow water. Sometimes a bit deeper but I tend to focus my time on shallower areas. Up stream sides of wingdams were good this past weekend. We fished along most of the wingdams by fishing 8-18 fow.

I've never caught a walleye from shore, does anyone have any tips. I've tried fat head minnows with a hook and a stinker and split bobber. I'm new to fishing also
@AnglerX7 ай бұрын
I would throw a jig and plastic and slowly work it back along the bottom. Use the lightest jig you can get away with to reduce the number of snags you get. If you want to stick to live bait, I think walleye prefer nightcrawlers over minnows especially going into the summer months.

Wish they would close fishing till April on the big river! Let them spawn easy pickens
@johnmiller59878 ай бұрын
They closed the area below a few damns for a 5 year stretch about 20 years ago now. Nothing changed. The good fish are nowhere near the damn. And now when you are on the eyes. You catch three slots per legal. However we see less trophy caliber fish. Please look up and read the state of pool 4. Put out by lake Pepin biologist from Minnesota. Which states there is no scientific evidence to adjust limits like Minnesota did. Yes laws were changed from public opinion. With scientific evidence to back it up. So please be careful what you ask for. It's the only game in town this time of year. Just because you're not catching fish doesn't mean that the system is in trouble.

@@johnmiller5987exactly…the big girls are still down river. It’s much more relaxing down there away from all the vertical jiggers up each others a$$es directly below the spillway. I rarely see another boat unless they are flying by heading up river.
