Thanks for the very thorough coverage of the celebration. Living in CA makes attending an event like this near impossible. I hope Shopsmith reignites some kind of marketing campaign in the near future. Many people I speak with either don't know Shopsmith ever existed or think it has long since shut down. I agree that the old model of showing the tool throwing sawdust was very effective, but I also realize it would be costly to pay folks to travel the country doing those demos. By the way, I upgraded my Power Pro "smart motor" the the Gen 2 and I really like it. Blessings, Glen

I recall Mr. Markwood a comment or comments I made years ago (perhaps not YEARS) but at the beginning of your channel how important Shopsmith history could be, is to the users. That said, I’m delighted to know how clairvoyant I am! Ok ok - I am disappointed I was unable to attend. Thank you both very much for all you’ve done.

I echo the comments about how good it was to see you and Tom sharing the success of Shopsmith’s 75th. I hope a similar gathering is coming sometime in the future. I appreciate Tom’s recognition of the Folkerth’s. Without the belief and vision of John and Robert we wouldn’t be enjoying the Shopsmith today. I look forward to see Mr. Cupps lead Shopsmith well into the future.

Hey Scott, Thank-you to you and Tom for the great recap of the 75th anniversary event. It was a pleasure to be associated with organizing for the consumer-side; and partnering with John Dalton on the interface with the factory. Even though the Facebook page for the event is no longer forward-looking, loads of people are coming in, so I think it's safe to assume your channel has helped to get more owners aware that the event took place. You and Tom both were a gracious presenters for our Saturday session and honestly, we wouldn't have had a Saturday without you two. There are some really fine folks who came and I'm glad to have met so many of them, including you, Lisa, and Tom.😁

My dad had a Sears Craftsman lathe in 1955. I don’t know when he bought it. He turned spindles as the main use. I really enjoyed the anniversary conference and appreciate you and Tom telling about things that happened in your group. It was 500 miles one way for me.

I am an old guy with a new tool (SS Mark 7 Ver II) and experiencing some quirks with my new SS....however, I am bound and determined to make it work and have fun doing it. Your videos make all the difference and have helped me immensely, and really help to add the fun. Nick Cupps is exactly what SS needs to move into the future and into the workshop of many, many new shopsmith woodworkers. From tool head to smart motor to smart tool. The new, complete, all in one, woodworkers Shopsmith Smart Tool is in the near future....hang on folks.

I got two Greenie headstocks. One happened to be a Greenie and the other a gray. But most of them need a LOT of help. AND, I had one of the buckets of ‘crap’ but most of it went to new caretakers. (Heck, if they throw it out, that’s still fine.)

This was a great interview. I really wish I’d have had an opportunity to go. I agree that people need to see the sawdust in action. Tom & Scott: Great review of the weekend at Shopsmith! I was extremely fortunate to get the chance to attend and agree with both of your assessments. Sign me up for next year! Thanks to both of you for your presentations. I would disagree with you both on one issue: I have attended many other conferences with "professional" presenters, and I would suggest that both of you are excellent speakers- Tom from his script of power point slides and Scott using a less formal ad lib form for his presentation! Thanks you both for your participation in the Saturday morning session. Several years ago, I attended Woodworking In America in Covington Kentucky, where the woodworking hand tool experts spoke(and demonstrated their skills) including Frank Klausz, Roy Underhill, Chris Schwarz, and Ron Herman to name just a few. Chris Schwarz, now with Lost Arts Press, currently is into chair-making (by hand). He does use some power machines to make his workflow more efficient. I seriously doubt he would be interested in attending a Shopsmith event, even as a speaker...no harm in asking, but he already has a booked schedule and a huge band of hand tool followers. He also is an excellent presenter.(They all were!) I really enjoyed meeting you guys and getting reacquainted with the Shopsmith crew. The factory tour was fascinating. Jim McCann and Nick Engler are always very informative and entertaining and gave an excellent Q & A session. I particularly liked the silent auction, and almost bought a couple of Greenies, but I have space issues at home. I would suggest, if the price is right(and it was) that everyone buy an old headstock simply to take it apart and discover the genius engineering! I also would like to see a "swap meet" like Tom suggested. I agree that Shopsmith should ante up as well, since it will benefit their future sales; they certainly contributed greatly this year with all the give aways, and the tools they donated to the silent auction. A BIG THANK YOU to Shopsmith and the organizers-lets do it again in 2024! jim

The Mark V 510 is no longer being sold by Shopsmith nor is the 500 to 510 table upgrade. Only the 500 to 520 upgrade is available. This makes sense. The 520 system is far superior.

Great chat guys. I like your ideas about the possibility of Vendors getting involved. Maybe some more hands on demonstration could be done. Some instructional areas for those of us who are still new. I opine that SS will have to simultaneously appeal to potential new users and fend off the never-Smithers who bad mouth the product as dangerous, too expensive, too complicated, and so on. Plus the advantage that single function machines gain from being made in Asia. I’m crossing my fingers that Mr. Cupps can pull it off.

I am really jealous of all the fun it sounds like having to get together with others who love the same hobby!! Maybe for a 'silent auction', have the 'smithies' (instead of swifties), build something to donate for the non profit , that the different items can be 'auctioned' through ebay, and who ever gets the most money for the non profit (with maybe levels- fits inside of a 12x12" box, or within a 36x36 box, and larger) and the ones that get the highest price gets a bragging rights prize of some sort. And a 'prize' for the people that come from teh farthest. :-)
