Im a BJJ guy, and I can honestly say Catch is making a comeback. And rightfully so. When the tide is high, all boats rise. So when all grappling styles are successful and respected, everyone bennefits.

@@spongebobsquarepants3990 I mean, you could get away with just Muay Thai and either BJJ or Catch. But all three will really give you a good skillset.

@Tai Lopez Sort of. Taking multiple classes can expand who you train against. BJJ classes on top of Catch would mean more time on the mat and more opponents to test yourself on.

@@spongebobsquarepants3990 Ask me, the best for mma will be : Freestyle or Folkstyle wrestling + CACC or LL + Boxing and Muay-thai. A little of judo is always welcome.

Ben Askren hit this bulldog choke against Robbie Lawler. Catch wrestling is an awesome grappling art, especially for high school collegiate wrestlers.

I've recently came across this guy's tutorials and as a catch wrestler since the early 80s, I can say. He is very knowledgeable and knows his shit. I've yet to see anything that he is not 100% correct. Technique is spot on and detail is impeccable.

My father had a Catch-As-Catch-Can gym back in the 1950s and as boy in the 60s he said I was not old enough to learn "real" wrestling yet, so he sent me to the local judo club which he thought was more suitable for boys, and which I did not like because all the rolls and break falls gave me a headache. When I was older in the 70s and 80s I practiced kung fu and karate because that was the fashion back then. 1990s and my father finally showed me his wrestling moves, holds and locks, and MY GOODNESS I could not believe how effective they were. The headlocks were crucifying, like nothing I had learned in judo or jujitsu. About two dozen neck cranks, sleepers, and face crushes. No wonder he seemed unimpressed by my Asian martial art fighting ability. The approach to arm locks was different too. Whereas in judo and jujitsu we usually taught to consolidate position and then seek the lock, in wrestling my father taught me wherever possible to secure the grip then apply the lock while at same time moving into the position so as to secure position and lock together, whether applying locks from standing or on the ground. It made for a swifter application and more fluid wrestle. During the 1990s my father and I were the only people I knew who knew these wrestling techniques, particularly the headlocks, and I thought they were dying out. So I am very pleased to see young men learning them today, and Catch Wrestling as it is now known being revived.

Of course bjj had lost a lot matches against catch wrestlers and Luta livre fighters but they day bjj have evolve in stand up grappling, leg locks etc bjj absorbed a lot teachniques in 90s from Luta livre and the no gi evolve way too fast p.e combat JJ l. Legit Catch wrestling offer a different philosophy and strategies for grappling so ofc can help any grappler

Definitely, back in the old days when catch first met Japanese jujitsu and judo , a catch wrestler was the judo champ for years , he never studied judo either , just beating them with catch .Plus now and days catch guts still do well , the only down side really lacking in catch is they really don't practice the guard, because it easily puts ur in a a position to get pinned . But besides that they way more aggressive then bjj and just as technical in most aspects .

Most of the time, yes. Of course all grappling systems have certain advantages, so really depends under which rule set you're competing. Here's watch I've learned in these 30 years being in grappling business: CACC vs JJ under various rule sets: Olympic wrestling: CACC Judo: CACC/JJ, both have advantages Sambo: CACC Jiu-jitsu: JJ Catch wrestling: CACC MMA: CACC Street fighting: CACC x 3

So what if guy on bottom in the first scenario at 3:44 decides to use that right arm and hook that inside leg and swings the outside leg to the front in order to start moving into the guard, which causes guy on top to sacrifice grip to balance with using one of his arms as a base while the bottom man turns into him?

your hips would go but your head would remain in the grip. or he releases the grip and sits on your arm meaning you cant go anywhere he doesnt want you to go and he ends up in side control at worst with control of your arm.
