I just started chasing big Gars and Cats about a year ago. I bought new gear and starting searching for them. Haven't paid for a guide and have just been looking for spots on maps and getting after it. I was catching some for the first couple of months but nothing big. But in January I found a great spot and since then I've caught my top 10 biggest fish. I've landed several gar up to 4 feet but last week u finally landed a couple big boys. 5'7" with a 28" girth and another at 5'10" with a 29.5" girth. I've also landed several flatheads over 15lbs with my biggest being 28lbs. It's an incredible feeling to be landing some quality fish after putting in all that work. Cant wait to hook into a 7 footer. Keep those lines tight 🤜💥🤛🎣

It's a good practice to place a bead between the weight and the swivel barrel. With the current and the Catan aggressive nature, that weight will cut your knot and loose your fish and leader line.

My friend Cesar that caught the gar in this video did not let it run far at all. Not even 60 seconds did he let it run. I like to let it run for a while. But everyone is different

I've caught a few one a little over six ft on a single Hook twenty lbs line spider wire always they put up such a fight.never plan on catching one just fishing for red's but I'm wanting to snag some more gar
