I always use the sharp end. The steel of the knife is much harder than the ferro rod and isn’t damaged, if it gets a bit dull i just sharpen it. Been doing it for years. But that’s just me

Oscar Ritson not really, that knife and others have ive seen be used have a 90 degree spine and work perfect for striking a flint/ ferro Rod. No need to use the blade or risk damaging it.
