Catching Live Shad for Striper Fishing | American River

Fishing for shad to then use as striper bait on the American River. Its good to be back! Lots more videos with updates to come, but here is a video of a quick shad/striper trip I took last night. Hope you enjoy! Shad are a ton of fun.

I was told u can't fish with Chad 4 strippers in this area I live in the middle of those rivers. Nice area.

In these waters, threadfin shad are legal to use as live bait in the area that they were caught per the 2023 CA fishing regulations. But don’t take my word for it, look it up in the regs!

@@PalmCirclePete Congrats on having the baby!!...It's legal as long as you use the shad for stripers right there and 'not' move to some other location. Trout can't be used for live bait. Also barbless hooks for Shad, Stripers, Steeelhead and Salmon, for any type of fish from the powerlines at Ancil Hoffman Park to the Nimbus Hatchery cable where that's as far as you can fish....from the powerlines to the Sac river, barbed hooks are fine.

Shad are not game fish. I used to cut school and trade a half a garage bag of greasy shad for fertilizer to a buddy's mom who grew weed for an ounce. In his high school that was the best thing ever

First what kind of shad you fishing for obviously American shad so American shad is not illegal to use in California? Specially live American shad?

Yes, shad are allowed to be used for bait if they are being fished in the location of where they were taken. Always read the updated regulations.
