Thank you for the great tips on shad rigs n darts !!! We are yuba city / Marysville and fishing the feather with little to none shad showing up so far . We fish out of a 14 ft Gregor boat with a 25 horse Evinrude and a Hook 4 fish finder . Keep up the great videos please . Tight lines.

Just wanted to shout out bro. Great videos man, much props keep it up! Just got back into the fishing game, haven’t fished for more than a decade.😅 Appreciate your teachings n techniques, hopefully I see you around. Thanks for sharing. I wondered what are the best lures and rig. I live by the American River and tried a few times at Harrington (opposite Grist Mill) but no bites. Maybe 20 others fishing along the bank and one on the left and right of me pulled one out, so the shad were there. I used a similar small weighted grub. I'll try again this May. I jogged past yesterday and saw maybe 20 fishermen, most using bobbers. Perhaps to avoid snagging on rocks.

Use the pink champagne grub with the 1/32 oz jig like on the video for the area you fish on the American. Some guys drift fish but they float fish b/c it's effective and don't snag the bottom too. They use a 5 to 6 foot leader line of 6 lb flourocarbon like Seaguar-$12 for 200yds and a main line of 8-10lb mono. On the leader, place a big split shot about 30 inches from the shad grub to keep the line straight. The grub at the bottom will float foward a bit which the shad will hit. Use a 3 to 4 inch tubular float[red top] with a 3/8 oz egg weight below it on the main line tied to a swivel which your leader will hook up to w/a barrel swivel. Place 2 bobber stops right above your float and a bead which you can adjust. Cast out and find the lane they're mostly swimming up and let it float for 60 ft or so then retrieve and cast again. Use a pole that's about 9 feet and med light for shad/steelhead and a small 2000/3000 reel. They start coming up there late April to late June.

@@1Mannco I stopped by the Harrington access (across from the Gristmill) many times April thru Memorial Day this year, while out running. I saw groups of ~20 shad fishing at Harrington several times, but no fish on stringers and no bites while I watched. I tried myself, trying the fast water about 1/2 mile downstream where 2 branches re-unite, with deep water below that, but nothing. The water has been abnormally warm, even warmer than typical in August, and the water very low. I saw big carp mingling near shore a bit further downstream and largemouth bass and bluegill appear to have moved out of the warmer ponds into the main river. It will be an interesting summer. Looks like the blue River Rat rafts will be taking out far upstream at Ancil Hoffman all summer, rather than Harrington, due to the small releases from Folsom Lake during this drought.

@@williamgrissom9022 I've fished early mornings there 2 days a week from late March. They showed about 4/20. It's slowing now maybe with the warm water and being low. I usually catch 3 to 10 Shad. Most fisherman release them, only a couple guys keep a few fish. Fish early from 6-9am, at least 3 hrs if it's good or 2 hrs if slow, also last 2 hrs of light but it's too hot for me and I don't want to be stuck when they lock up. When you park, go straight down and fish and to the right a bit to where the brush along the shore starts to the tree on it's side. I know the spot you mentioned but 1/4 mile down right 'before' the small rapids where it goes into the deep water and the 2 branches is a good spot too.

I fish mainly the rivers, but if you’re targeting shad I would run a Carolina rig and adjust the weight/leader length to the flow of the current. With heavy rain this year I would go 1-1.5oz for shad. Depend on which section of the river you’re fishing. Tight lines.

I pretty much grew up fishing my dart grubless, I have grubs but I like to run the darts empty unless on the American. they seem to react to the grubs more on the bobber set up

If you plan to simply catch & release you should really handle the fish better. No need to let the fish flop around on the rocks.
