I was there. This is the world premiere of this piece. Now this piece becomes one of the most famous percussion notes, but no audience in there could expect it in that time. The performers were the all of 2015 BM class members of Eastman percussion, They were junior in this time. Actually, I'm dad of Sam Um who is one of the marimba players.

I'm sure you are, but you should be incredibly proud of your son. And you should be proud of yourself too; as the musician son of a musician, players like Sam don't come out of nowhere -- there's music in his blood.

Whats so interesting about this song is you notice how the parts are written almost a half measure apart from each other. Like the cajons and how they trade off at 1:13. Just like a shadow that is always behind you.

wow. what an astounding performance. i love the way the “extra” instruments (vibes / Cajuns ) intermixes with the marimbas. i loved the regular duet and i think you did a fine job playing this with such musicality. i find it extremely innovative and creative of you to add in the vibes and other percussion. that is an important constituent in presenting musicianship, having your own way of performing. sure it’s great to not only play the solo but play it well but it’s an even better thing to do what you guys just did and add that little touch of your own. the vibes ring perfectly and the cajuns fit in excellently with the rest of the players. that what you call music my friends. fine job.

I heard this song for the very first time today (04/27/2024) at the WSMA State site at UW-Platteville while waiting my son's percusion ensemble to perform. I was BLOWN AWAY, this song is a masterpiece. It is almost a Chill/Deep House song. And kudos to I believe Middleton High School in Wisconsin for your performance. I still have chills thinking about it. Not taking anything away from my son, he scored three 1s and a 2 (for his percussion ensemble but the bar was set way high as they followed Middleton) but this song and their performance was the hightlight of my day.

I played this piece 5 or 6 years ago. It took me longer to find my old sheet music than I expected, but that's because I forgot just how much old music I had. I didn't know at the time, but this would be one of the last songs I played on a Marimba to date. I loved that Marimba 2 part. Dispite having the 2 sections where you are the only one playing, it never felt so pressured. The first section (m.55 in my music) was always so epic. It felt like the into to a boss theme or the start of an adventure. It was the part that all of the other members, and even some non-members, wanted to learn, just because it sounded so cool. The other part (m. 107) was such a stark contrast. It was so light and airy. I knew that if I was too tense, I would cut off the space of the end measure notes and start rushing. It kind of forced me to relax, take it slow, and open up. All things said, this is a great piece that holds so many memories for me.
