Catching a bus from our home village of Vaitele-fou to the main town of Apia. Apologies with the audio issues, background audio had to be altered due to copyright issues.

Supakako is the Samoan translation of the word Supercargo. From Wikipedia: A supercargo (from Spanish sobrecargo) is a person employed on board a vessel by the owner of cargo carried on the ship.[1] The duties of a supercargo are defined by admiralty law and include managing the cargo owner's trade, selling the merchandise in ports to which the vessel is sailing,[1] and buying and receiving goods to be carried on the return voyage"

You notice that not one person coming on or off the bus is in a rush. I miss the easy going life in Samoa. Last time I was there was 2006.

Beautiful lots there, love that little suburb area! Sad that the locally owned shops have closed down. Someone should open a store and model it after the Chinese stores (regarding prices, and products, providing jobs to others, etc.), maybe it would then thrive. I did not even know that non-Samoans could open stores there....🤨 I like that there are no bus stops, but the no set schedule would not be my favorite (unless with someone else to chat with). So nice that bus! AirCon and modern looking. I was expecting one of the multi-colored, open air buses. Smart idea to drive around and pick up more passengers. Do you pay for little kids with you, and is the fee always the same regardless of distance? Has anyone ever run off a bus without trying to pay....And if so, does the Supakakos chase them down? 😂 Nice they are playing the old song made popular by Tina Turner! I like how you have the camera following you like that...It almost appears that it is floating after you! Ahhhh, now we see the "Pasi Laupapa"! Tourists must love to ride on those ones! Sorry it was an uncomfortable ride for you... totally understand your liking the other bus better. We really enjoy your videos, and your commentary that teaches us so much about Samoa! Faamanuia le Atua! 🙏🏼💕

The “Chinese shops” are normally Chinese business people married into Samoan families. They’re still referred to as Chinese shops even though most (not all) of the Chinese speak Samoan relatively fluently. They can’t speak English very well but they can speak Samoan well enough 😂

Like your videos even though u don’t talk much and don’t see your face… Samoa has changed so much since me and my wife left back in 2000. We are coming this December for three weeks, with our kids. Maybe we will run into each other…

Love watching your videos...one question how do you know how much to pay the bus driver when you get off?
@JerryandOfiinSamoa2 жыл бұрын
Bus fares are regulated by the Land transport authority and are available on their website. If I’m not sure, I’ll just ask another passenger on the bus. Otherwise I just give the driver $5 and wait for the change and hope the driver doesn’t rip me off too much LOL

I was in Samoa for two months in 1993 . It's really sad to see it being exploited by the Chinese and commercialized so much. Hopefully the standard of living is better now .

Without the Chinese shops, people can’t afford stuff. The Chinese make things cheaper to buy.

Do they have bus stop so you know where to stop or you just tell them where you want to stop?🤦♀️😁

You can pretty much stop anywhere haha even if you walking on side of the road and see a bus just signal it and it will stop

This is exactly my preferred type of vlog. Plenty of detail, packed with subtitles, less talk, and you don't fill the screen with your face like most of the videos today. I admire your work and keep it up.

👌 wow, just look like automation hydraulic door operated smoothly with out any problems, but what about in events of accidents/ the door would fly open 🤔 😀, and the passenger shoots out like the 🚀 rocket...hehehe....

Sad to see small Samoan-owned businesses squeezed out by wealthier Chinese-owned competitors. Small businesses are the best way into financial independence for communities like Samoa. This is not an anti-Chinese statement though - just pro-Samoan. The song is Proud Mary by the Creedence Clearwater Revival. Supakako is just Samoan for "supercargo". From Wikipedia: "A supercargo is a person employed on board a vessel by the owner of cargo carried on the ship." [Edit: At 20.04 the music changed and someone is loudly tapping on the bus window to get off. Lol. Ku the pasi fa'amolemole ua fia oso i lalo!]
