I’m so inspired by this. Now I have to figure out how to shoot vertical anamorphic haha. Thanks Janis

Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. Suh a unique look. I've been wanting to give vertical anamorphic a try once I figure out a monitor method. Very inspiring piece!

This is truly something else. The sentiments conveyed through this film reminds me of "At Eternity's Gate", a film about Van Gogh's last years. The light and colors in that film are their own language, in this, too.

Really beautiful images, Janis. Great film! Colours and light roll-off just amazing. Really high quality rendition, somehow quite sharp without looking sharp, if that makes sense. I’m eagerly awaiting delivery of my first Isco and hoping the right projects crop up for it. I was wondering about your set-up, did you use a separate taking lens or use the back end? What focusing route did you go down? Thanks for the timely inspiration. Best wishes Martin
@janisbrodАй бұрын
Thank you Martin! The Helios 50mm 1.8 was my taking lens and the Rectilux HCDNA was used for focus. Honestly I'd never even consider going double-focus, it's just not practical at all. And the original taking lens of the Isco neither has a mount nor an aperture, so that's not really practical either. Have fun going down the DIY anamorphic rabbit hole, it's quite the journey! :)

So beautiful. Keep coming back to this for inspiration. So you have the camera mounted vertically with the lens attached normally and is the Isco mounted “correctly” or are you rotating it as well?
@janisbrod Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah exactly, only the camera is vertical. The Isco stays the "normal" way.

Absolutely beautiful film. I'm curious what your color/film emulation approach was for this. Was it Resolve + Dehancer or something else?
@janisbrod7 ай бұрын
Thank you! :) exactly, it was graded in Resolve with Dehancer.

@@janisbrod When you say vertical have you rotated the isco 90 degrees? and if so how are you still getting horizontal flares such as at 0:48?
@janisbrod2 жыл бұрын
@@TavianOrd No, just the camera is vertical. The Isco is mounted on the rods in a normal horizontal way. :)

@@janisbrod oh wow that's so interesting
@janisbrod2 жыл бұрын
@@TavianOrd would have been easier with a box-style camera though... For example I couldn't use my second lens support because the lens was just too far above the rods due to the design of the S1H. And the whole handling was a bit awkward - but it was fine since everything was shot on a tripod.

Is it 3.5k cropped? What codec did you use?
@janisbrod Жыл бұрын
It's 4k anamorphic mode (4:3) - All-Intra 4:2:2
@tyshchenkoyevhen Жыл бұрын
@@janisbrod Do you know if getting 4:4:4 on S1H with an external monitor is possible?
@janisbrod Жыл бұрын
@@tyshchenkoyevhen You can record BRAW or ProRes RAW with an external recorder, which is essentially 4:4:4 afaik. But then again, those Blackmagic and Atomos monitors/recorders don't have good desqueezing and cropping abilities, especially for a special format like this.

looks like heavy setup. ... is what I take away from this... have to be locked off shots (Wonderful artist though!)
@janisbrod8 ай бұрын
It wasn't that heavy of a setup but back then locked-off shots were definitely the only way to do this because there was no way to properly monitor it and I had to look at a squeezed image on the internal camera display. Now I have an AJA ROI that can rotate the image before going into an external monitor. That results in a much bigger and heavier rig but I'd be more comfortable shooting handheld with it because I can actually judge the framing and focus much better.
