You done good today! I went to East Galveston bay yesterday, and it was easily 2-3' high water over normal levels. Kept me from getting to some of my favorite spots. Bait was really scattered too. I think it was part of the moon phase. A little tip here. When I bring my crab up on the freeline, as the crab comes up, my net goes down in the water column. Crabs can see you and the net and they get antsy. The net comes straight up from below the crab. It takes a little practice to figure out the nets correct position due to the refraction from the water. You are quickly becoming the crab whisperer, my friend. I am going on a crab trip next week to a new spot that could be epic. Will let you know how it went.

Great job ! That’s a bunch of big beautiful crabs ! You may have done it , but a damp towel to cover the crabs in the cooler calms them and they don’t fight each other as much . Don’t keep crabs in an air tight container, they need to breath . Just a crack for air to get in . Also , you can use a walnut cracker or a meat tenderizer cleaver to gently make a crack in the claws so that the crab boil can seep in . A larger circumference net can help loose fewer crabs .

You did good. I like my crabs cleaned before they are boiled too. Those crab will stay alive for several days when you keep them iced down. Just leave the plug out on the ice chest and keep the ice visibly layered in the crabs. Then you invite a friend over who knows how to clean crabs. You get a couple lawn chairs, a bucket of water, a water hose, a garbage bag, and a six-pack of Pacifico for hydration for yourself. Your friend or family member will show you how to dispatch those crabs in a few minutes. All cleaned and ready for your boil. Get extra beer for your boil water and a couple bottles of "Real Lemon" lemon Juice to add to your water in addition to the lemons. It will really make your shellfish taste clean. You do not really need those gloves unless you have soft hands. The crabs will be "asleep" from the cold ice and they won't get you. Clean them out with a good jet from the water hose and no need for a toothbrush. I have seen the "Old Couple Outdoors use one. I never seem to have a spare one handy. Lightly crack your claws so the boil can get in. You are good to go. Oh, and Tug Trash is a good cook.

Just curious what the etiquette is for how much space one can/should take for crabbing. Is it acceptable to claim the entire dock or should you allow others to fish/crab on that dock? Same for pier fishing. How much space are you allowed to or should claim as "yours"? Suppose it became a crowded spot...would you let someone in? How vigorously would you stand your ground?
@TheFishAndTrips Жыл бұрын
Honestly, on a boat ramp. Get in where you fit in. So if I setup on every other pillar. Someone can easily come setup on the ones I skip. There's more than enough space crabs for everybody to eat. Now if I'm fishing, that's a different story, because if you keep casting over my line, were going to have the situation.😂😂😂
