@@PureHoneyBoo To be fair to the idols you mention, Wendy has nobody to really communicate too, she goes weeks, and months sometimes without having a proper conversation in english. So it’s easy to forget english plus she was born in Korea so she didn’t know english right off the bat. For Felix last time I checked he was more comfortable speaking English than Korean. Let’s see how she does 1-2 years from now and see if her grammar has fallen off.

@@Bulaanbiruu Dive gives her platform, but the one who let her talks would be her agency, no? If the agency gives her and Dive rules of what to talk, it won't be this smooth. I have worked and interviewed some JPop artists, and the bigger agency, the bigger the artists, the stricter they'll be to the journalists and the artists. They even limit questions scope and even check the final article or video before published. I am still thankful that Denise' management gives her this leeway to speak out to her heart content. Some of her answers might be ambiguous for audience, for example when she said it's hard for her to see the SN members as friends when they're colleagues (minutes 24:56). For me personally, this gives me a light that Denise is very professional in her job, but not sure how about the SN stan with this statement.

Also at the 19:49 mark, when talking about feeling in the middle with "oh you're Korean, why can't you speak Korean" and feeling torn, I can relate to a degree. I'm half Mexican and half white but grew up in a small town inbetween Atlanta and Nashville and neither community accepted me. Always got "why don't you speak Spanish/Mexican" "you're not REALLY Mexican" but wasn't accepted in the white community because I'm mixed and being a southern, didn't mix well. It's heartbreaking to hear other people have similar experiences but also nice to have people to relate to/understand you. Amazing episode!!
@someflower48424 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree I am also half mexican and half white and I was never taught Spanish so I really didn't feel like i fit in because you could see I was mixed. I also got the you are not mexican because you don't speak Spanish honesty such a hard thing to go through because it nothing you can can control. I was alittle bit luckier to grown up in California,where there is a big hispanic community but even then I went to an almost a white school and felt so out of place

Same...I’m Mexican American but pale skinned...Spanish is my first language but since here everyone only really talks in English I kind of forget some words and overthink what I’m saying now

Same. I'm Chinese but I have grown up in Indonesia. Even my parents, my grandparents, parents of my grandparents all born and raised in Indonesia. So I don't know how to speak Chinese. I was like that too when people ask me "so you're Chinese but why can't you speak mandarin?"

THIS IS SO WHOLESOME????? I was smiling the whole 55 minutes like a fool!! Denise was fangirling so hard and I can feel how nervous she was but she did SO GREAT. I just love how smart and humble she is when she talks and opens up about her struggles as a Korean-American. I really hope Koreans would appreciate DIVE podcasts more for how important it is to have a platform like this where idols can just be themselves and talk about anything and getting more personal, it really opens up new perspectives.

A couple days ago Ashley on instagram asked what guest they should have on the Get Real podcast. I suggested Secret Number and now boom Denise on Catching Up with Eric. Kinda suggested that out of the blue to keep it English and have the perspective of rookies but damn she's awesome, so comfortable and friendly and real. This won't be the last time she's on DIVE.
