I spent 4 years in university and not a single faculty member gave a lecture with even a fraction of the clarity that this lecture has. Thank you Khan Academy for being the best out there.

As a person with ADD people often mistake my condition with ADHD. My ADD really took over my life and I couldn’t focus at all and I’ll be having maladaptive day dreams. I would fidget a lot. With ADD my whole life I have gotten really bad grades as well, when I got my medication it made my heart beat so fast and made me hyper. I don’t like it but it helps me focus at least

i understand your point. especially with ADD being comined with ADHD in the DSM, not many people know that its been split into ADHD inattentive type and ADHD hyperactive type, (plus the mix of the 2) and that you have to specify if theres a predominnant hyperactive and/or inattentive presentation when making a diagnosis. its the same with Bipolar. you'll always have to specify if you have bipolar 1 (mania and depressive episodes) or bipolar 2 (hypomanic and depressive episodes) since many people think if bipolar 1 when they think of bipolar in general. its annoying and stressful, but until people catch on to what the differences between the types of certain disorders, we'll unfortunately have to keep specifiying

Same but I was far from normal. I always knew I was different from the other kids. The shit I deal with is something that I’ve never seen anyone else have. My ocd in middle school was so bad I thought I smelled really bad so I would avoid people everywhere in school. I was anxious constantly at school and the only relief I got was hiding in the bathroom. Not even my teachers understood me so they would just yell at me for being different. Hallways were super crowded so you could imagine how awful school was. I was so convinced at the time that I smelled like shit despite cleaning myself much more than other kids. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I seriously tried to kill myself because of this “scent” my brain would trick me into smelling. The human brain can seriously fuck you up bad

Public awareness about mental is now heightened. more and more people noticed that the growing number of diagnosed mental illness emerged and the impact on society. Public understanding about mental illness also rediated from the sympathetic crowd. it's impossible that psychological ailments appear out of nowhere. Medical expert said that anxiety and depression are the most common mental ailments in recent years. There are many reasons for rise of incidence of pychologycal illness. One of biggest contributing factors is stress caused by overwork. the increasingly busy lives with detriment to our well-being is exacting its prices on us and driving us to work harder and longer. we should step back and realize how valuable our own physical and mental health are. the well-being and heath are interwoven.

just wanted to say that, i suffer from pyromaniacism. it all started/got worse when i was 4. i litreally lit a closet on fire and watched it burn. this might sound weird but, it looked beautiful/pretty. luckily tho the fire fighters extingiushed (i think its spelled like that) the fire. when i was 6-10 i would make those lil fire pits on pieces of metal, even in the house. and when i was 12 i lit my arm on fire. yep, that happened. i still have my arm tho, i only covered my arms in a flamable liquid (dont really remember what it was). ALSO: im not from any country that speaks english. A L S O: when i was 3 i would tuurn the gas stove on and watch the fire burn for sometimes even 10-50 minutes straight. i mostly did that when parents were not home.

i’m so confused and too scared to bring it up with my therapist. i am diagnosed with anxiety and depression, i am very antisocial. i would probably never cry at a funeral or about someone else but would cry if someone yelled of bullied me. i seem to dissociate when really good things are happening to me. i used to sit with my eyes open and seem to leave my body and go into my mind to imagine something(good) for like 10-15mins, i think, i would have no idea what happened when i come out of it. i feel high self protection but not self esteem or love for myself. i have almost no memory of my childhood but i remember a little, i had a good one i think. i’ve had suic1de attempts and self harm if that means anything. i had a friend in 3-7th grade who always said things that lowered myself esteem and she sexually harassed me one time but i didn’t know because i was too you to think anything of it. it was an abusive friendship that i always went back to because there was no escaping her. there’s times my dad hasn’t been the best to me but i don’t think he’s a bad person or meant any of it. i lie a lot without actually wanting to about small things. lastly, i like dead things (not people or animals) and i like looking dead. please someone diagnose me :/ if i have anything

Your implication that drug use is the root cause of the mental disorder, I feel, is a misrepresentation. In my personal experience, drug use is often a symptom. Most are self-medicating to deal with the root cause disorder treating the addiction without pinpointing what they were self-treating through altered reality. As someone with Bipolar 1, I have belonged to many programs and support groups. One of the most common risks we all take is drug use to self-medicate in a vain attempt to level ourselves out. Most of us have dual addiction to uppers and downers, trying to find that thin line of feeling normal. Treating us for drug addiction without treating the bipolar would be a blueprint for disaster in our lives.

I had a friend last year who seemed to show the symptoms of Bipolar I. She kept thinking so many things were negative, would have a hard time speaking, wanted to hide under her covers. I think she never got the help because of a stigma involved and she would have had to admit she experienced some serious traumatic events which require opening up. She never hid the problem well because she liked to say people did not treat her correctly because she was black, an old excuse. I think she made everything hard on herself. Sorry you feel the need to defend yourself but I just wanted to tell you, not everyone deserves your defensiveness and not everyone is judging you! She did not want my help after a whole year of me trying to reach her so it is up to her to get the help just like with anyone. No one with a mental disorder has it easy, this is a fact. It is like a tread lightly from day to day. By the way, have you ever tried chiropractic? Anything natural like meditation?
@girls_game_as_well4397
@girls_game_as_well4397 2 жыл бұрын
@@darlinspaces I have tried many things. The fact you think a chiropractor can assist with a chemical imbalance in the brain says alot about your understanding of bipolar. Personally I produce no lithium which is the body's emotion regulator. I have to take Dr prescribed lithium before I was ever able to find some level of balance. Bipolar is one of the most difficult disorders to treat due to its self destructive nature. You said your friend refused to get help. Do you realize people with bipolar rarely self admit the need for help. Bipolar is a genetic psychological issue not a trauma issue. Our brain literally is chemically imbalanced we don't produce or overproduce the chemicals such as lithium, serotonin, etc.
