Very few people get it. Car enthusiasts want to hear the car and the reviewer describe the car in a detailed and emotional fashion. No music over the cars engine sound, no mic on the exhaust and not overly produced. Thank you very much for this pure and unadulterated content PH.

I find it helps communicate the sense of being in the car. The PH videoblog on the McLaren 570s gave me an incredible sense of what it feels like to be in the car and pushed along the road driving the thing.

You nailed the experience: It's all about the fun, and being out in the elements in a way the bikers enjoy riding. You forgot mentioning people's reactions. I got a lot of middle fingers and flashes in my M3. Not once in the 7. I've been talked to, honked at and been getting plenty of thumbs up in my Cat. And I've not changed my driving style. The social experience is a big part of the fun. It's always been my dream car since I've been a passenger 15 years ago, and I own one for 3 years now. If people ask me what my ultimate dream car would be, it would be a Caterham with more power. Every other fast car is just a regular car. There's only one problem: Upgraditis... The urge for better parts just never stops...

The Caterham is perhaps the reason why I switched from racing cars to bikes, not about being in the elements but the driving style and experience. My favorite cars seemed similar to bikes, like classic open wheel cars and Caterhams.

This is my dream car. I am buying one immediately after I get the appropriate funds. Hopefully Caterham can export to the United States. I just want one because nobody else has these cars, especially in America.

very nice. I just wish Caterham would stop putting HUGE alloys on these tiny little cars. They mess totally with the unsprung weight of the car. 13's are and always have been the best option on these wee thing. They also hugely increase your choice in performance tyres.
@jmaund4 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. Wheels should only be just large enough to accommodate the brakes that are required. As you say, unsprung weight really screws with getting the handling right on these things.

Great little cars that are alive with soul and character. Undiluted driving in a world of namby pamby driver aid dullifications! Ultimate caterham duratatec running throttle bodies with sticky 13s in my humble opinion
@bsmukler7 жыл бұрын
Great review! The experience seems similar not only to motorcycles, but also to those great and simple cars of yesteryear, such as the Triumph TR3: A great connection with the elements (as the elements "connect" with you), and the pleasure of driving a very light and elemental car.

Throttle response is the thing. It's hard to properly convey the benefits that come with instant throttle response, particularly in the age of the turbo.

I love these cars, in fact I’m hiring the 270r next weekend from Caterham Gatwick, I wish they would rent the 360r which I’ve driven and preferred but hey I’ll take the 270r for now. The noise and experience is unbeatable. I went from Caterhams to bikes but I miss driving these cars that much that I decidedly I had to scratch that itch again😎

Is that why the rool bar seems to be flapping around very slowly? (among all other things in the near background) Very uneasy to watch if that's a youtube function.

I really love the ethos of Caterham and the cars, but I could never own one without a roof. If only they'd do a special model with a hard top. Great vid as always, thanks!

Caterhams come with a fully-enclosed soft top, and it is works great and is very dry, but it's a bit of overkill for normal weather and takes a while to put on. I have one of these: www.softbitsshop.co.uk/the-half-hood-8-c.asp which is all you really need for London/Seattle.

Very good review! I have one of the few 1.4k Supersport sold in Portugal in 1994. Did some 16000 km on it, from 94 to this day, always with a big smile on my face. I had many nice cars along the years, but nothing compares. The SV body is too ugly, spoils the wonderful looks of the original Lotus.

@1061shrink10617 жыл бұрын
its also the only remaining live axle model, its a strange mixture of old school and new school. Not sure its entirely in the spirit of a Caterham. For me the 270 is where it gets exciting, and here the 310 really captures the essence of the older Caterham supersports. But for me, money no object, the 420R is the one i'd buy. it gets the balance of power vs driveability just right.

Why are you buried in the dashboard in a caterham, it always looks like the driver is pushed right up to the dashboard and then the steering wheel is knuckle scrapingly close to the gauges and switchgear and the gear change looks like it’s actually under the dash - why??

Love Caterham, but I think there completely over priced, you do almost get your money back when you come to sale the car, so it's not all bad. Q - "do Caterham tune there engine before they get put into the car, or is it a box standard unit you would find in a ford fiesta?"
@clairebannister47497 жыл бұрын
Sv ugly... proportions all wrong. The exhaust reminds me I must fix the stove pipe on my log burner. If they have so little depreciation as you claim, then why buy secondhand.? I had a tuned 1.7 supersprint on webbers with 160bhp 4 speed live axle and clam shell wings - bags more character than these new ones for 12k.

As much as I'd love to own one, and haven driven one, as a biker, there's no comparison. For £3k, you could buy a bike that would leave a 20k Caterham for dust. You have all the downsides of a car, with the downsides of a bike, with none of the benefits of a bike. For anyone thinking about getting a Caterham, seriously, get your bike licence... You'll equally shit your pants for far less money.
@alanhillyard16393 жыл бұрын
I did, then after a couple of years decided I couldn’t reconcile the fact that you are so vulnerable to other drivers actions on a bike. So back to trying to get as close with less of the danger
@gofres3 жыл бұрын
@@alanhillyard1639 I'm not sure a Caterham is less dangerous, maybe marginally so. They haven't passed any safety tests that we are used to in modern car safety today. I guess it comes down to, would you rather be thrown from your vehicle in a crash, or wrapped up in it? Each to their own I guess. I'd take a bike every day of the week.... in fact I did for 7 years!
