Caterpillar 420XE Backhoe - Dual Mode tutorial

Hey there folks, I was hanging around a new Cat 420XE backhoe loader and thought I’d make a quick tutorial video on how to use a new feature called dual mode.
Dual mode allows you to run the loader controls while facing the rear of the machine with the click of a button, or if you are facing forwards it allows you to run the backhoe while facing forward in the machine.
It’s a simple to use feature, and if you own a 420XE I hope this video helps you understand how to use it.

Just answered my question right off! Nice. My steering wheel wasn't all the way up so I couldn't operate the back with the seat not locked in. Got it now! I KNEW I was able to do it before...literally tried everything except the steering wheel haha

I'm on my 3rd year with mine, love it, but rear hoe does work when steering wheel is tilted, the light is there to warn you that your sticks will hit the wheel if its not up, if the seat is in the turning position and lever hits it wont do anything as a safety feature but if you get turned to the back position it will then dig, sometimes i have the steering wheel set right where it won't hit but can spin back and forth without moving the steering column every time.

That sucks wicked. I am constantly raise lower boom to get under obstacles. Or swing left right for counter balance on hills. Or pushing myself out of stuck…etc all needs to able to use back end while I’ll facing forward. Can you still do that?

I’d be curious to here why you think it’s not handy? You said you need to be able to run the back end while facing forward… well in the traditional style the backhoe controls are behind you, so you’d have to reach behind you to use the backhoe controls. With this feature all you do while facing forward once the dual mode switch is active is press and hold the trigger on the left joystick and now the backhoe controls are in your hands while facing forward, once your done let the trigger go and your back to running the loader on the front. I just don’t know how much more handy it can get, please help me understand. Thanks for watching

So still you can´t Drive the backhoe from the rear ?? Damn my old 1986 Huddig has that ! back and forth and turning while sitting in digging mode.

You also forgot to mention that if your working the backhoe you can pivot your seat to the right and hit the dual switch and still operate sitting sideways. I use it all the time when I am hoe ramming and can have a better site line or if your loading trucks off to that sides. Much more comfortable then cranking your head all day

I will have to give that a try the next time I am in one, I was certain that the seat had to be in one of the latched positions in order to operate any of the hydraulic functions as a safety. Thanks for watching

What is the possible reason why a badkhoe loader wont start after service even after priming fuel

@@briankorir7060 air bubble in line. Blockage in line. No/low fuel. Pickup pump weak/bad. Compression. sucking air in fuel line. plugged return line. Good luck
