It's just a little tight when you have to break out the backhoe. Nice implementation of that seal tool. I'm sure I'll make one next time I do a cylinder.

Hi Gary . Nice job . I always use blunt screw drivers to get the seals in as well , never had an issue . Cat wiper seals you have to use emery paper to polish off the protective film before the locite . Cheers .

Woohoo...a new old iron machine works video! 👍 P.S. That’s not just “in the tight class”...that’s holy sh*t tight when it takes a backhoe boom pushing down on a 5 ft long cheater bar to break that cap loose. I’d say the rust holding that cylinder cap on was stronger than some of my welds. Lol

Awesome video Mr. Gary. I always enjoy watching you do your thing. Always a learning experience. I worked in the oilfield back in the 70's and we had a huge Climax pump that had 2.5 inch rods and 8 inch pistons. Not nearly as complicated as these cylinders but the same principle. We had to get some big cheaters most of the time also. We had a 60 inch pipe wrench and would use the boom line from the rig to pull on the cheater.

Hercules hydraulic seals Florida has all seals packing orings parts made in USA. By size or machine Getting cylinders off machine and apart is the issue . Pins and heads seized up. Oy vey!!! I had to cut some apart reweld . Especially in salt areas PS : CAT service recommended JB weld for rust pits on seal surfaces even on chrome rods . They sell a product actually for that. I put new seals in hot water to make them pliable to install. On JCB backhoe there are hidden retaining pins under piston head wear ring band. You will never get nut off rod unless pins are removed Also never use Chinese orings . Get quality rings from reputable source. Don't ask why I say this..lol
